Geneviève Bujold was signed to play Janeway but walked out during initial filming of the first episode, Anybody know the details of why? She would have made a super duper captain, too bad...

In the extra material on a dvd they said she quit because she was a film actor and had not expected the fast pace of filming and the long days of work.

If you have/can get access to the DVD's, the information is in the bonus features for Season 1. As Michaela.liktberg says, she did not realize that working on a series was that much work. They do have a clip of part of what she shot for the Caretaker episode.

She thought it was too fast pace. I am actually glad she did, I find Kate Mulgrew played a 10x better captain.

Ugly? In what way? Definitely more attractive than Mulgrew, no disrespect,

Also she was supposed to have a stressed look to signify a difficult life of emotional battles,

She is like 70 dude and if your wife looks that good at 70 you would be very fortunate, When Mulgrew reaches 70 we will compare...

I saw the clips on the special features. I thought she was horrid. Her voice, her appearence, her acting, didn't seem to have any chemistry with the rest of the cast, the whole package. I'm glad she left.

Really? Well considering she abruptly walked out right at the start I imagine her heart wasnt in it, I was just judging by appearance and on her past accomplishments,

Well, of course we'll never know for absolutely certain, but, as far as I'm concerned-and many others with me-the outcome of Kate Mulgrew being chosen instead as the captain-who put as much heart and soul into Kathryn Janeway as an actor could-was a great choice, and became my second favorite st actress. Hats off to Kate!

I am curious how she would have done if she had stayed. Kate Mulgrew was excelilent as Captain Janeway though.

Definitely. I watched part of the pilot on youtube before Mulgrew signed- it was horrible. I'm partial, of course, I love Mulgrew as Captain.

Is this really how you feel Ayko or is this a flamebait thread?

The woman's acting is simply awful. Seriously, the person(s) responsible for even getting her in front of a camera should be terminated with extreme prejudice. I have seen some bad actors in my time, but this woman takes the taco.

How you think this woman should have been the captain over Kate Mulgrew really boggles the mind. Please share some more of your wonderful insights on Genevieve Bujold, I can use more laughter in my life and this is COMEDY GOLD!

I agree.

Are you sure it isn't time for a colorful metaphor?

Same here. Mulgrew was definitely a better choice.
