PASADENA, Calif. -- Observations from NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter have revealed possible flowing water during the warmest months on Mars.

"NASA's Mars Exploration Program keeps bringing us closer to determining whether the Red Planet could harbor life in some form,” NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said, “and it reaffirms Mars as an important future destination for human exploration."

Interesing news story.

Sad that Mars seems to have been a near miss when it copmes to the evolution of life. On the other hand, I suppose it is better than being invaded by Martian aliens.

At any rate, I guess a lot of scientists are suprised that such a cold surface could still have running water.

in 1978 viking orbiter one took pics of a geyser shooting and casting a shadow and the 27juily2000 released pic shows a water reservoir on Mars and i wonder why everybody is again and still so mesmerized by evidence of water on mars and incidentally it is a scientific fact that all rocks and stones contain a certain amount of water and a planet is 'just' a big rock so why dont you all 'come back to earth' and find something constructive to do

Typical ant-space nut job with nothing better to do than troll forums trying to find exceptance within the intelligent and thought provoking community.

I hope that NASA finds microbials in the water as well. I was watching a NOVA special the other night that was talking about the Ph levels of Mars. According to the recent find the Ph levels are sufficient enough to grow asparagus in. That means that soil is able to support plant life and all that needs done now is to build a done around an area pipe in the water or transport it from Earth and Mars would be able to be re-seeded with life thus allowing for the growth of humanity.

The age has come for us to begin to look to Mars for a new home to spread the seed of humanity.

I agree with Cyboman, We have had physical evidence of water being on Mars since the 1970s so whats the big deal about more evidence recently found like it was the first time?

The importance of finding flowing water on Mars is significant because when flowing water is present it means that the temperature where the water is flowing is above freezing. When water flows above the freezing point it means that there is enough heat to create a water flow as well as providing the means for microbial life to be present. Once microbial life has been proven to exist on Mars then new theories and stepping stones can be created that would allow for even more understanding of how life came to be on Earth and where life could exist elsewhere in the Universe.
