I concur and after all is said and done, who really cares? It's a show set in the distant future. Why must people always over-analyize things with political, social, and religious references and not just enjoy a show simply for what it is?

I think Yanks is right:  some shows seemed more liberal, while others seemed more conservative.  Would you call the Prime Directive liberal or conservative?

I think the characters were supposed to make the right--or, at least, the best possible--decision, as when Riker disobeyed his Admiral in the Pegasus episode, although he had defended him, originally.  Sometimes, the viewer agreed with the decision, and other times not.  They were, basically, "only human."

I think Star Trek's always had a good balance. I'm conservative myself and I think the writers do a good job with drawing the line on such topics.

I've noticed that too. Did you know that Kate Mulgrew wanted an LGBT encounter on Voyager?!?! She nearly got one too (Warlord). That really appalled me when I found that out. Thank goodness we have Jeri Ryan, who's conservative.

I assume it's because the creator of Star Trek Gene Roddenberry had a liberal bias.

Probably, just like 85% of the people in showbiz.
