Can anyone tell me if in the original series there was ever a referance to the saucer section seperating from the rest of the ship? I am being told that kirk gave an order to seperate the saucer section in distress. From memory the USS ENTERPRISE NCC-1701 never had the ability to do so. It is also my understanding that the USS ENTERPRISE D was the first to be able to do so.
