I'm a little surprised at all the votes for Kirk. I mean, he wasn't my favorite but I think that TOS and all the characters therein suffered from the same overdramatic writing that was common in the late sixties.

I try to keep that in mind when picking favorites and such because TOS was so far removed from contemporary culture... and Kirk improves a lot in the movies. At least that's what I think!

Definatly Janeway. She was down right self centered and egotistical to the point of jepordizing the crew, and violating any law if it suited her needs while still thumping her finger on the star fleet manual. Major hipocrit.

I liked Archer, the least. They gave him too many boring speeches,
even T'pol looked bored, sometimes. He also wasn't played with very
much conviction, like Scott's heart just wasn't in it. I never bought him
as an idealistic dreamer jaded by reality. It all seemed so ... forced.

Agreed on the boring speeches. I hate prepared speeches enough in real life, (Deliberately missed my own graduation this year) never mind in fiction. Although that having been said, Sisko had his share -- not quite as many, and possibly not quite as boring -- of rhetorical bullcrap as well.
