Indeed they are, saw one here at the EMP/SFM and found it a terrible shade, one no one should wear by choice.

Shatner can't do the Vulcan salute. In The Search For Spock, when Kirk was breaking McCoy out of jail, they had to tie his fingers together with fishing line so he could do it.

There are two other "Vulcans" who can't do it.

. Zachary Quinto can't do the Vulcan salute without help.  Maybe we all know that one.

. Celia Lovsky, who played T'Pau in Amok Time, could hold her fingers in a separated position, but she could not do it on cue.  When you watch the episode, notice that Leonard Nimoy raises his hand while separating his fingers, the correct way to do it.  But Ms. Lovsky already had her fingers separated before the camera was on her, probably needing someone to help her, and when the camera goes to her, all she has to do is raise her hand.

By the way, I do the Vulcan salute really well, with either or both hands.  I can open and close my fingers, too.   I entertained people who were standing on line for autographs at a Star Trek convention who were trying to do it.  You would be surprised at how many people can't do it!

If anyone watches "old school" black and white shows, "Twelve O'clock High" is a show that has elements of the original series anthem in it. I know Gene was a bomber pilot in WWII and that he did some war and western shows before he did the original series. I wonder if he had anything to do with this show?!?!?!

Loyd Bridges was Gene's first choice for captain of the Enterprise. Bridges turned the roll down because he didn't like science fiction.

Not surprising. Bones may be a good 'ol boy from Georgia, but there always was somethig about him that kinda said "Irishman" too. Wonder what tipped me off? Maybe because his last name is McCoy. Sounds like an Irish name to me.

Little note about John de Lancie.

Forgot he was in "The Hand that Rocks the Cradle" until I just watched it again on cable recently.  When "Doctor Mott" came on camera, of course I went "Oh my God, that's John de Lancie from Star Trek!"  ha, ha.  I had seen "The Hand that Rocks...." many years ago when it first came out in the movie theatre.  I vividly remembered jumping at the end when DeMornay falls on the picket fence.

Another note: I forgot how many famous stars were in this film:

There's also Ernie Hudson, who is also from "Ghostbusters" fame.

And a very young Madeline Zima, who later played in the TV show "The Nanny"

Anyway, this was just a little trivia for you guys.

P.S.  It was really wild to see de Lancie play such an evil, creepy part when he is so famous as the wacky, happy-go-lucky "Q".

This discussion is lots of fun! There must be all sorts of little known facts about Star Trek actors we could learn.

I've got a few to start with. I remember seeing Robert Picardo as Kevin Arnold's gym teacher on The Wonder Years several years before he was on Voyager. He was on several episodes but I've forgotten the character's name.

A couple relating to John de Lancie. His wife Marnie Mosiman appears as a member of the "chorus" in the TNG episode Loud As A Whisper. And his real life son Keegan was Q's son in that episode of Voyager.

Kate Mulgrew was on a couple episodes of the sitcom Cheers as a love interest of Sam Malone's. She was a local politician running for the office as the mayor of Boston.

I thought of a couple more.

Pertaining to DS9. In the series of Hellraiser horror movies. Andrew Robinson (Garak) starred in the first Hellraiser. Terry Farrell (Jadzia) was in the second or third Hellraiser, I'm sorry I can't remember which right now I'd have to look it up.

I don't know if it's been mentioned but Rene Auberjonois (Odo) and Ethan Phillips (Neelix) costarred together in the sitcom Benson.
