The much wronged Miranda Class was very old.

Early each morning he searched for her Til his feet become bloody and tired Her hologram photo stayed near to him Buried deep in the pits of his heart

All the way I say the Enterprise-C has been in service until the NCC 1701-D had been launched.

The C was destroyed a year into her life.  That's 39 years short of the 40 year bar.

The Oberth class is by far the longest-served ship, predating the Connie and Miranda and lasting until at least TNG.  It's probably just because her job is a simple one - She's basically just a moving science station.  She has a small crew, almost nothing on her to upgrade except for the science platforms (which are probably modular) and doesn't take much space up at a science station.  It's hard to see how you can improve on it much.

Seems as if the Nova has recently been tasked with the same profile, so whether The Oberth's time is finished or if they'll be phased out gracefully has yet to be seen.  To my knowledge we haven't seen one since Generations.

As fr a single ship, The Excelsior is still going strong well into The Dominion War.  At some point she'll need to go into retirement, but even then she may be kept around as a trainer like The Original enterprise was.

Alright. I didn't notice (the TNG ep where the Enterprise-C first appeared) that, either it was a alternate timeline, she was in service for such a short time.

You're right with the Oberth class & also the Miranda was for quite some time in duty.

What about the Constellation Class starships. I'm just thinking this off the top of my head so I'm not exactly sure.

Excelsior class started in 2290 and was still being used in the Dominion war (2370's)
