Birth of the Federation is my all time favorite trek game. A great turned based strategy game. I wish they would make an official sequel there are some pretty good mods out there for the original though. When you get 500 ship armadas going at it it is pretty awesome! Outside of that Star Trek Armada was a good RTS Bridge Commander has a great story and pretty fun gameplay. The mods for that are pretty good too.

I'd have to say Armarda was my favorite. Elite Force is definitely a good one as well.

For strategy try Armada 2 hard to find and you may want to talk to a computer expert about getting it to run. It is the best star trek strategy game I have played.

I think my favorite is Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force. Yeah it was just a Star Trek Quake but I love playing it. It feels like being an actual member of the crew and the Hazard Team was a cool concept, wish they had incorporated it on the show.
Are you sure it isn't time for a colorful metaphor?

Definitely a tie between Elite Force/Elite Force II and Armada/Armada II. They were great games.

for me it depends if want realtime strategy then go with armada if you want shooter then elite force but if you want adventure it has got to be A Final Unity. Yea its old but it felt like an interactive episode of tng

Legacy is absolutely terrible. It's one of those games that you can only force yourself to appreciate if you're an uber Trekkie.
I never got a chance to play Bridge Commander, but I've heard nothing but good things. As for STO...it's going free to play a in a few months, so just wait on that.
Star Trek: Armada I & II are great strategy games. For adventure gaming, I'd recommend tracking down some old copies of Star Trek: 25th Anniversary, Star Trek: Judgement Rites and ST:TNG - A Final Unity DOS games. Old school Monkey Island-style gameplay, voiced by original cast. Freakin' brilliant.
There's also:
ST:TNG - Birth of the Federation: Master of Orion 2-style strategic gaming
Starfleet Academy and Klingon Academy - Really fun space combat sims
Starfleet Command series - Tactical ship combat
I Borg'd yo mama last night. She found it very assimilating.

I almost forgot about Birth of the Federation. I remember picking it up at Best Buy a long time ago because it was only $5. It took a bit to get used to the way you play the game and learning how to manage everything but once I did it was so fun. But until you get really good at it turn off the random events so the Borg don't show up and destroy you. It was one of the only games that the Borg actually were a threat if you were NOT ready for them.
Are you sure it isn't time for a colorful metaphor?

I've never played Bridge Commander, but Star Trek Voyager Elite Force for PS2 is awesome! The graphics by todays standards pretty much suck but the game itself isn't bad. Even though it's PS2 it looks more like it was originally designed for the original Playstation, but it probably came out when Playstation 2 was new.

Check out Boxer: a freeware version of DOSBox for Mac specifically designed for MS-DOS-based games (which most of the games mentioned are).

I can honestly say I've played most Trek games that have been released for both the PC and consoles...
And my favorites are (in no particular order):
- DS9: The Fallen for the PC
- Starfleet Command for the PC
- Starfleet Command II: Empires at War for the PC
I really wish someone would swipe the ship combat from Star Trek Online in order to make a separate (non-MMORPG) game. That is clearly the best part of STO, with great customization and excellent game mechanics.
