but this site is run by cbs and the movie is made by paramount.

Since CBS owns Star Trek itself and Paramount doesn't anymore, perhaps the plan is that the next movie will be promoted via startrek.com and not the site Paramount had set up for the last movie?

well the first one wasn't.  I don't know why the second would.

like I said on the previous page, in a perfect world this site would be a beacon of star trek and a destination for all star trek fans, but we are a world driven by money.  For a site run by a network for a tv show that is essentially dead in the water I think they put a lot of effort into this site.  More effort than any site for any other tv show that hasn't aired in years and has no plans for the future.

That is the hope I have, that the next movie will be promoted "here".
It makes much more sense doing it that way, now that CBS has revamped
StarTrek.com to someone's liking, apparently.

From what I've read, startrek.com was considered "dead" when ST2009 was in the works, and that was why Paramount created startrekmovie.com. When CBS announced the relaunch of startrek.com, the staff seemed to vanish from startrekmovie.com, perhaps under pressure from CBS to Paramount?

Note that photos from the first movie can be found on some pages here at startrek.com now. Could be a bit of an indicator of what's to come. There is a picture of young Kirk on the main index page for the "Latest News" section, a picture of young Spock and Spock Prime is used in the "Introduction To Star Trek" banner that rotates at the top of the page (#4), and a picture of the young Spock figure is used in the header for "Hot Items."

I suspect any corelation between the paramount site and cbs's site is purely coincidence.  And that there is some sort of agreement between the two that allows for cross promotion since it benefits both and they had to cooperate for a huge majority of the previous movies.

I'd bet with the amount of money the first movie made, CBS may be less willing to share anything it can keep for itself!

of course they are willing to share in the success of the film.  Why wouldn't they be? and I doubt paramount would allow cbs to encroach on thier right to promote the film.  Makes no sense at all for cbs to do that anyway.

I'm on here or on trekmovie. I think the owners of the site could do more, but it's pretty open for the hardcore and casual fan. Some of these "Trekkier than thou" sites turn me off.

For the most part, we can have serious discussions, silly discussions, or even good natured debates.

I would hope any change to the site wouldn't ruin that vibe.

No, but we have a thread here where the site asks for ideas.  When have ANY of them been used?  We make recommendations because we want this place to have more appeal and draw in more people.  We want to feel connected to the franchise but this site doesn't make it easy to do that.

You have to spend money to make money.  They want to make Trek more profitable, then invest in getting the fire of fandom blazing again, not just keeping the embers going.  Other trek boards and news sites are updated more regularly and provide a more immersive experience.  People do that in their free time for love.  You would think this site could improve itself on the clock for money!

cbs has no star trek shows in production.  The fact that they put any money at all into this site is amazing really. Especially when network tv is in decline like it has been the last couple decades.

Exactly.  The franchise is busy with books and working on the next movie.  ST09 sparked a revival of interest as did STO.  That fresh interest could be harnessed into even more profitability if this site could actively promote itself.  The sweepstakes are a nice start, but more awareness should be raised.
