Why was the original scene when they pull his mask deleted?

I don't know. I haven't scene it yet.

That whole subplot with Col. West was deleted. It was thought that it painted Starfleet in TOO much of a bad light to have both assasinations attempted by Starfleet Officers.

I've oft wondered this myself, as I've seen too many commercial TV airings of TUC.  This editing is why I prefer watching TUC in its pristine storyline.  Yes, I can see the point of airing TUC on commercial TV in the context of preventing the portrayal of the Federation in a bad light, but, I'd rather watch the theatrical original.

I agree. Why do they delete Rene's scene at the end when he falls to the floor after Scotty shoots him. It's a pivitol part of the undercover plot to who all were involved in the assassination of the Klingon Chancellor.

It's just as VGER said: Having Starfleet behind a plot to murder their own leader to keep a war going was just too much. They weren't even going after a nobel reason like ending a war.

I agree it's an important subplot of the movie, plus Rene is a fan favorite, but if Gene Rondenberry still had more control over the franchise, I doubt that idea would have been allowed to begin with.
