If there's one thing Ezri wasn't, it's Jadzia 2.0.
The two were completely different characters - while Jadzia was confident, Ezri was confused and lacked the confidence that had defined Jadzia. And Ezri seemed more relatable - and, in fact, more "real" - because of that.

I prefer Jadzia for 2 reasons:
1) Her relationship with Ben
2) Her completeness and confidence as a woman
Jadzia was comfortable in her skin, which is something Ezri never had. I enjoyed Ezri; I thought she was cute, and I respected that she was different from Jadzia. But she wasn't inspiring the way Jadzia was for me. As a woman who has felt so uncomfortable being female for most of my life, it was nice to see a woman who loved her body and her life and who didn't apologize to anyone for making decisions she had every right to make. I don't like that she married Worf; I think she should have stuck to her "marriage doesn't make it any more real" guns, but I'll let that slide. As Garak said, "She owned herself."
Ezri's lack of confidence or self-comfort was bothersome for me, but I agree with the sentiment others have proposed in that I related to her more.
Anyway, the most traumatic part about the Jadzia-Ezri Dax switch for me was what felt like the death of the Sisko-Dax friendship. No more "Old Man," no more reminiscing and hanging out and going to each other for advice. Not really. I get why they did it, but I really felt sorry for Ben, who wanted another Curzon or Jadzia and instead got an Ezri.
Today is a good day to die.

I wished they killed Jadzia at the end of the second season/beginning of the third with "The Jem'Hadar"/"The Search". She was cool as a science officer, but I lost interest when she lost the science in her. Anyway, I'm a BIG fan of Ezri, she communicated humor and I'm sorry we only got one season from her.
As for the 7th Season, I really don't see an over focus on Ezri. She had "Afterimage", "Prodigal Daughter", "Field of Fire" and "Penumbra", which was used to set off a story arc with Worf and the Breen. Comparatively, Bashir had "Chrysalis", "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges" and "Extreme Measures". Sisko started out strong with "Image in the Sand", "Shadows" and Symbols", and "Take Me Out to the Holosuite". It seemed like most of the characters had roughly three good episodes with accompanying B Plots.

Yeah me neither. I once did a count of episodes featuring each major character for the seventh season, and found that the number of Ezri episodes were fairly equal to those featuring each other character. (Not counting eps like AR-558 which were really an ensemble cast effort.) Only main-title character who ended up with significanly less time was Jake -- Can't say I missed him!
In other words, we can only speculate -- but I don't reckon Ezri was given significantly more screen time than would have been given to Jadzia, had she stayed.
As for developing characters... the least amount of time people ought to need is barely even a minute. Best character development is when we can tell what kind of person they are going to be in the moment that we first see them. I don't dislike Jadzia. (I think that does need saying). But it really was so frustrating how long she took to develop as a character. Available screen-time or not.

By far...Jadzia. I just wish Terry Farrell hung around one more year. If only for her & Worf to have a baby.

Ezri should have been brought on a little earlier, at least one season earlier to have more development. As cool as Jadzia is, I didn't react to her anymore.

Unfortunately the timing, whichever way it would have gone, was due mostly to logistical matters. Farrell got that role on Becker. It was starting production. She wanted to leave. I'm sure that from an artistic standpoint the writers and producers of DS9 would also have preferred either to have kept Jadzia for the seventh season or brought on Ezri for the sixth.
Them's the breaks.

Had (the similarly bussomed) Parker Posey essayed the role of Ezri Dax, then yes, what you say is correct and I would not hesitate admitting it. And, until Rain Robinson came along, on VOYAGER, would have considered Ezri (so cast) to be the hottest womyn on STAR TREK.

Im going to have to vote for Ezri, heres why. I felt like the writers didnt really know what to do with Dax and she was just all over the place, and I also think the actress who played her wasnt that great of an actor. Ezri was a counselor which I thought was cool and I just thought her back story was more interesting. That being said I felt DS9 had definitly commited to the character of Jadzia and when she died I felt as though they should have just let that be the end of the Dax character and brought on a completely different character all together, another Ferengi, Bajoran, Bolian anyone.
