I like Jadzia better. I don't think they should have gotten a new Dax on the show.

Jadzia was cool, so she wins in attitude, but I like Ezri's looks more.

Oooh so hard to choose! Jadzia was awesome in so many ways and stepping into her shoes was a huge task but I think Ezri did it very well. I didnt take to her at first but she quickly grew on me and I love the way she has developed in the books.

If I had to choose out of the two Ill cjoose Ezri, but only cos she carries Jadzia in her via Dax too.

That didn't occur to me!!! By that logic Ezri should win.

Heh true. But its not a logical question but an emotive one and I think Jadzia made her way into most peoples hearts further than Ezri had chance to, unless they have read the books.

"Let me see if Ive got this straight. You're risking the ship, the crew, and the mission on the assumptions that Helkara and Leishman are engineering geniuses, Tharp is a piloting savant, our transporter chief can work miracles, and the Breen are unwilling to sacrifice themselves in a kamikaze attack?" "Yup." "Damn I LOVE this job."

I have to be honest: Ezri.

Jadzia was okay, but she was often uppity, and kind of bland. No-one seemed to know for sure what kind of character they wanted her to be, and as a result she ended up being inconsistent. Only really developed any likeable characteristics when she was interacting with Worf. Don't get me wrong, she was Okay. But never much beyond Okay.

"You're a very pretty girl, Jadzia. Very very pretty. But unfortunately, that's all you are." ~ Joran, Facets.

Ezri's backstory was more interesting, of how she got joined and all, and she just seemed to be a far more accessible and solidly developed character through the time that she was on. It felt like the writers were forever telling us that Jadzia was supposed to be awesome, while doing so little to show us that she was.

No comparison, Jadzia is far superior.

Ezri for me.  Jadzia became a great character, but I didn't think she stood very well on her own.  She was great because of the Curzon/Klingon stuff, and the Worf connection.  Ezri, on the other hand, had a personality that was refreshingly distinctive and self-contained.  I understand that some people found her annoying, but I didn't.  She was a great addition to the show.

Nicole DeBoer did an amazing job of really bringing Ezri.  I think I felt like Jadzia was often too close to perfect which.  Yeah they did have a few episodes that showed her as less than perfect, but she still didn't catch me as being quite as real as Ezri.  Another thing; while I could love Jadzia to pieces, I really empathized with Ezri.

Cheers Magnadoodle -- I got quite a similar sentiment but wasn't at all sure of how to express it. Nicole deBoer was great, and to her credit, she really did well to take on some of the mannerisms of Terry Farrell as Jadzia while also fashioning Ezri to be a very unique character.

I do like Jadzia. (Or, actually she's about on a par with Jake for me...) She had her moments. But it was frustrating that she was never as fantastically awesome as the writers seemed to think she ought to have been. Perhaps they hyped her too much.

Please explain the "hype" as I have never been aware of this.

For the record, Jadzia was written as a support character through which her relationships was a means to flesh out and understand the primary characters.

There was no focus on her character development until the introduction of Worf and then she was killed.   Ezri had tons more character development focus because they had to justify her in the final seasons, which took away from the show.

I too preferred Jadzia.  Perhaps in time, I would have learned to like Ezri more.  I felt the writers were trying too hard to replace Jadzia with Jadzia 2.0.
