Due to the fact that the actors are going to be the same, and the fact that also like 2009 it is going to directed by J.J. Abrams.(who I have lost all faith in from Star Trek 2009) I think it may be just as terrible.

Resistence is...

Its funny I wasn't expecting to like the 2009 film but as it turned out I loved it! I hope the others will be a huge success and they will make more!

I'll probably end up seeing over 5 times even if it sucks anyway........ just because its Star Trek. So there's this Nike t-shirt I saw that said something like "Even if you suck". So there should be a t-shirt with the new crew on it that says:

"Watch Star Trek - Even if it sucks."

Because that's what Trekkies are. Who else would come back week after week even if every other episode sucked? None other but a Trekkie.

Waaaahhhhh, it's not ST the way I believe it should be! Waaahhhhhh!

It still amazes me that despite box office, good critical reviews, and overwhelming fan and non-fan response, some folks still carry on like ST09 did poorly.

For once, I would like a fringe fan to be honest and say they did not like it but they are aware it was well-received. ESPECIALLY, when a quick Google search will reveal that they are in the minority. Then, at least an honest discussion about the movie can take place without folks feeling like they need to take sides.

Treknoir, WE ARE being honest when we say it sucked, yes it did do well at the box office the whole fraking planet knows that, why did it do well ? because it wasn't Star Trek, all it was, was a bunch of stupid teens out in space acting like morons and they manage to stop a villian who was about as dangerous as a butterfly, the movie made Kirk and Spock look like buffoons and i'm sure the sequel will do the same, and people LOVE to watch other people acting stupid THAT IS WHY the movie was a hit.

I think I'd have to disagree with you there DJ - none of the critics (or indeed the fans who watched the movie) cited the characters 'acting stupidly' as a reason why they liked it or rated it highly. I'd also dispute the idea that the characters 'were acting like morons' - to be honest I don't see them doing anything more stupid than anything from previous Star Trek movies.

Also, to be fair, I don't think you can really call Nero "about as dangerous as a butterfly"... I mean, blimey, he'd blown up two fleets and a planet by mid-way through the movie; he must have the highest body-count of any of the Star Trek movie villains.

Thats has got to be one of the wierdest crits Ive ever heard.

Nero was not a villain... he was the movie's hero. He quickly realized he was in a universe where stupidity is the cosmological constant, and he heroically took it upon himself to correct the mistake in accordance with the Prime Directive. He had to make up a lame cover on the spot, which is why his motivation was made no sense... but fortunately it didn't matter because everyone was too emotionally charged and intellectually vacant.

In answer to the OP... the follow up is going to suck simply for being a continuation and therefore acknowledgement of Abrams' black hole.

Opinion is not fact. Clearly, your dislike of ST09 is just as valid as my like of the movie. What is not valid is to pretend that your OPINION is shared by most fans and non-fans.

You can say it's not ST 'til you turn blue in the face and pass out. It's canon. Sorry.

Quite so. You shouldn't really be comparing Kirk and Spock against the previous versions. Remember that they are younger versions, and can be somewhat different. I wasn't exactly the same guy 5 years ago as I am today.

And yeah, there's things to criticize abut this movie, but there's stuff to criticize about EVERY movie. Also change is hard , some have a harder time with it than others.

I could do without the bloody brewery though. I hated that set so much. So....damn....much.
