>We all have a favorite/least favorite species on Star Trek, what is yours? My favorite is Vulcan and my least favorite is Ferengi. (I can't stand them)

Yeah, I pretty much agree with this.

I always liked the Cardassians. Sure they were a villianious race, but unlike the Klingons and Romulans that conformed to strict sterotypes, the Cardassians you could almost feel for. They had a deep back story.
A culturally rich and free society that was plagued by disease and starvation that the military had to step in to save the people. Starting war after war to annex resources to feed the people and stop poverty. Naturally this led to the militarization of the entire people and naturally some chaffed like in the dissident movement.
Then in season 3-4 when the people finally get fed up with a military government, overthrow them and replace them with a democratic government.... oh they must be shapeshifters! And thus the Klingons invade and set them right back to where they started if not worse. A second rate power.
It's almost understandable when you have Klingons annexing your territory on one side, the Maquis running free on the other that they accepted Dukat's notion to join the Dominion. But that was the path to hell, win or lose as the viewer got to see and in the end they paid a heavy price.
The Cardassians produces a number of compelling characters too. Gul Madred, Enabran Tain, Elim Garak, Tekeny Ghemor, Damar and of course the king of all villains, Gul Dukat. Dukat and Damar both captured different aspects of Cardassian society and evolved a lot.
Dukat you never could be sure where he stood. There was awhile you were almost wondering if he had become one of the good guys. And no matter how many setbacks or reversals he encountered he always managed to make a menace of himself.
Damar had a very compelling character arc. In two aspects I'd say he evolved more than any other character on DS9. The second in command of a freighter to leader of the Cardassian Union? Or the avid defender of Cardassian militarism, until he witnesses the recieving end of such cruelty and realizes how wrong it is and how wrong he was.
Even though the Cardassians were the bad guy throughout the series you couldn't help but understand where they came from sometimes, how their society when things got bad, reacted as they did. And sometimes wonder if things get that bad how we will. And even in the dark cruelty of their worst there was a glimmer of light and hope always.

RStar17 Well written. They are a very normal species having to deal with a lot. Despite their occupying Bajor which was neccessary, but not all Cardies are bad, when you see them and see how they are, it's like the saying, "They are people too."

My favorite is the Dominion, but still I like the Bajorans. I have favorite Characters from a lot of different species. And the BORG are way cool, but they are (SPACE VAMPIRES!)

Favorite: Humans--most (arguably all) others conform to some manner of stereotype. All vulcans are cold, logical, supra-geniuses; all klingons are proud, honorable warriors; all romulans are trecherous backstabbers; all ferengi are scheming and greedy... humans could be anything.
Least favorite: Pakleds. I just don't like them. They weren't creepy, per se, but they gave me the creeps.
