I think he wouldn't. He lacks the ability to come up with creative solutions and he would not break regulatiions if nessesary, like Picard or Sisko would.(Thats before his emotion chip)

His experience on the Sutherland proved his abilities. Before getting emotion, he showed great respect for the feelings of others and tried to emulate them. After installing the emotion chip, he gained the insight he needed to have expert diplomacy skills as he displayed playing the borg queen. No doubt he should be captain once he is revived within B4.

I would like to add that I think Data would make a better captain than Spock. I think he is more creative and balanced.

No. Data would NOT make a good captain.
It's just so obvious. For one thing, he
is always trying to find out about human
nature, but never quite getting any kind
of appreciable grasp on it. For another,
his emotion chip has only made him unstable
in the past. And, uh ... he is dead, you know.

If he were alive, yes.

but he's dead, so, *sadly*, it is impossible...

Thanks for recognizing!  I thought no one would. (By the way, I spelled bungalow wrong on purpose.)

XD I Probably listen to that song daily!

@2takes, no appreciable grasp? RLY? Because as I saw it he ofter had a very good grasp on humanity, without being aware of how human he was.

And he isn’t dead, we know this, B4 became Data, and if I remember Countdown correctly, he WAS captain. It was mentioned before, but we saw him as captain of the Sutherland, which proved invaluable.

To me, the point of B4 singing at the end of NEM was the same reason they showed the torpedo at the end of ST2, to give you the chance of return.

I think TNG is filled with instances of Data showing leadership skills and the ability to critically think out of tough spots. If the existence and control of emotions is a prerequisite for command, then Vulcans and Andorians shouldn't be captains either.

every captain has his/her flaws. i don´t see why data´s wold prevent him from being a good captain anymore than anyone else. so he may be a rule-stickler, but tng shows us again and again that he has a lot of creativity, and is certainly able to lead/command! (to counter a few of the misguided conceptions i see here...)

Data would make a great captain!  While he does stick strictly to the rules, he also knows how to use every loophole available.  Remeber when Geodi wanted to explore whatever that planet was when he thought his mother's ship the Hera was down there?  Or when he helped defeat Ardra?  Although he will never throw the rules out of the window, I think Data realzies that rules can be bent, if not broken.

I love Data soo much, I just don't think he is capable of being a good captain and wouldn't be able to make tough desicions like Kirk and Picard.

Felicitations, fellow Alpha Quadrant residents. I am the First Officer from the Galaxy Class U.S.S. Magnus.
