Stewart was a fine actor in Trek and is a fine actor all round. Ive had the pleasure in watching him work up close and he is an intelligent and enthusiastic actor who understands his roles implicitly.

He's also the go-to guy if your looking for a decent resturant!

>Mmmm, It's always been a hard tie between Nimoy and Stewart for me, I personally think Nimoy is/was a fabulous actor, he helped inspire my current hope of profession. But Stewart, he just blows my mind, I mean he's phenomenal! I love his works in Shakespeare and add his ingenius performances from Star Trek..I'd probably have to say that yes, he was the best actor that the franchise pitched.

Stewart was the best actor to play Picard thats for sure.  Nimoy was the best actor to play Spock ( doesn't mean I didn't like nu-spock )  Shatner was the best actor for Kirk  (  yes I like nu-Kirk too )   As an American I just love British accents,  of course that  does not make Stewart a better actor,it  just gave a little something to Picard.  I've seen him in many other rolls and I especially liked him as Srooge in A Christmas Carol.

Someone asked "Whatever the hell is Shakespearean actor anyway" (not ad verbatim). I read that as an insult, even if it was meant to be. LOL.

Well, to be blunt, it is an actor who specialises in the works of William Shakespeare. Acting on stage (Live Theatre) is a lot more difficult and requires more skill than acting on camera. IMO.

Sir Patrick Stewart is a true thespian, he is THE best actor, let alone captain, of the whole Star Trek franchise IMO, and there is no bias on my part just because he is British.

The voice & the intonations, the delivery of his dialogue, the subtle movements of his whole body, let alone his facial expressions are clear signs of a man who has perfected his acting skills. He is oratorically perfect.

Someone else mentioned he shaped the federation as we know it in Star Trek and it's hard to diagree with that. He was the embodiment of Starfleet principles and morality. It was an excellent point/post made by another member.

I love all the Star Trek series/movies for different reasons but ST:TNG, IMO, is untouchable and no other series within the franchise comes close to it over all. I wouldn't even want them to rehash/remaster it in any shape or form. It should be left untouched and viewed exactly as it was made at the time. It should be treated like the rarest and most valuable antiques.......with the utmost love, care & preservation.

Over time, I'll post my thoughts and discuss Star Trek a lot more then the 3 meagre posts I have made so far (not enough hours in an earth day for my busy life), but I know that none of them will ever be written with the same passion & genuine respect I have for this man.

Simply the best actor ever to grace the franchise, with or without an Oscar, and whilst we all have our personal preferences in terms of favourite Captains, for me he is by far the best Captain ever too.

You dont need to be a specialist, just extremely good at understanding Shakespeare and translating this to the audience. This skill is generally whats gets you invited to work with and is honed by (though not exclusively) the RSC.

The skills required to perform in front of an audience and in front of a camera are quite different but I wouldnt say one requires more skill than another, they are just two different diciplines which most, but not all, performers can adapt to.

"Let me see if Ive got this straight. You're risking the ship, the crew, and the mission on the assumptions that Helkara and Leishman are engineering geniuses, Tharp is a piloting savant, our transporter chief can work miracles, and the Breen are unwilling to sacrifice themselves in a kamikaze attack?" "Yup." "Damn I LOVE this job."

YOU DID A WONDERFUL EXAMPLE OF CONTRADICTION IN THAT PARAGRAPH ABOVE.

WE'LL AGREE TO DISAGREE, I ACTUALLY BELIEVE THAT 'SOME', NOT 'MOST', ACTORS (OUT OF THE MILLIONS WORLDWIDE) CAN ADAPT TO.

I dunno if I'd say he's the best actor on Trek, only because I think that honor should go to Brent Spiner.

The man pulled off sso many characters and made each one distinct and memorable!

I think Colm Meaney is the best actor.  Not saying that Stewart is bad, but I saw an episode of L&O with Meaney and he was so freakin creepy.

Excellent shouts for Brent Spiner & Colm Meaney being the best actor to grace the ST franchise. Wouldn;t even try to dismiss your opinions with those choices. Funnily enough I'd have them 2nd & 3rd in same order on my list. Brent does play a variety of roles very well indeed and Colm Meaney is somebody I see in a hell of lot of movies/TV dramas etc because I'm from Liverpool, England and we have a massive Irish connection here (only a ferry across the Irish Sea away) so I've seen loads of him over the years.

I still believe Sir Patrick to be the best though, for the reasons I've already stated.

Hey ho, opinions are like A.holes in that we've all got our own.

For me, it's a tie between Stewart and Nimoy. But yes, Stewart is a phenomenal actor, and Star Trek is lucky to have had him. I've never seen hima ct in anything besides Trek, but from what I hear he does an amazing job.

i wouldn't give Sir Patrick Stewart the best actor of the francise but definatly of TNG Kate Mulgrew did a great job in VOY and Mr. Nimoy did an amazing job in TOS while John De lance did incredable as Q in both VOY and TNG. to me their are best actors of series' but never over all of the series' o the francise.
