Anyone feel they ran outta ideas when it came to the TNG Movies?

Some things work and some things don't.

TOS was without question the best as a TV series and clearly the best as a movie series. Sure, there were some weak moments, but cinema audiences were forgiving because after all it was Kirk & co.

TNG was a good TV series and had moment of greatness. Because of this and its success, it was deemed obvious by some that it too might make a successful transition to the big screen. But it had very mixed results.

Given that TNG - which was easily the best successor to TOS - started to flop big style after First Contact; then what chance would weaker offerings like DS9 and Enterprise and rubbish like Voyager have?

It is obvious.

After Nemesis there was only one way to go ... back to the beginning.

With the exception of Insurrection, I loved all the TNG films.  Nemesis was fine, if you remove the whole B4 crap; or at the very least B4 should have been Lore.  Insurrection actually made me embarrassed to be a Star Trek fan.  I don't think they were running out of ideas either.

First Contact was a great coda to the Picard Borg arc.  Sure, it had issues.  But its just a movie.  I don't get too wrapped up in timelines or continuity.  Its a shame that there will be no more movies from that era.

Interesting idea. What if the android parts had been parts of Lore and the memory was wiped. That would have made such a better story.

>I disagree that "First Contact" was horrible.  It had the best of all the TNG movie stories.   And the Borg hadn't been over-used yet, as happened during Voyager

I agree with you that First Contact was a great movie. I am personally a big fan of Generations, but that's just because you get to see a little bit of both TNG and TOS worlds in one movie, and I don't think you can beat that as far as appealing to the fan base goes... Then again I'm a fan of Nemesis too, so maybe I am completely off here.

I'm a fan of Nemesis too, so we both must be off.   I think people tend to forget that Nemesis came after Insurection; compatred to its predesessor, Nemesis is freakin awesome.

no, they didnt. People say Nemesis sucked, IT really didnt. Innsurrection is the only one that is harder to watch.

I would have to agree, I love every Star Trek film and the new one is brilliant but I do find innsurrection a little slow and my least favourite. I have to admit the original films are my favourite up until the latest movie which is epic.

For me, it wasn't that it was "slow." It had quite a bit of action in it, and it was fairly well paced and consistently paced compared to other Trek movies.

When I think of INS, the acronym from the Original Series GNDN comes to mind (goes nowhere, does nothing). It's a movie that literally goes nowhere and does nothing for me. There's nothing of substance to be found anywhere in the film. Even the action scenes are passionless and without purpose.

(CLICHE WARNING) It is, at best, a mediocre 1-hour television episode stretched into a 2 hour film that was supposed to be a major motion picture.
