Thanks to the miracle of Netflix, I've been rewatching shows I grew up with. One of them is MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE. If you don't know what that is, then you must be from another planet.

Although I'm only partway through my rewatching of this classic series, one of the things I noticed was the number of Star Trek actors I've seen so far in season 1- The guy who played Stonn, the guy who played Dr. Richard Daystrom, Mark Lenard and George Takei. Hell, I wish they made Takei a series regular. I also know that Leonard Nimoy joined the cast after Star Trek was cancelled, but I haven't made it to season 4 yet.

One of the things I've noticed is how much everyone smokes and drinks. You would think that the IMF was a bunch of Alcoholic Chain Smokers (TM). While I'm old enough to remember when smoking in public wasn't illegal, it was a WTF moment when I saw people puffing away all over the place, including AN ELEVATOR. Times were really different back then.

I never saw Daniel Briggs because most reruns were from season 2 and on up, since most people were familiar with Peter Graves in the lead role. But I like him a lot. Too bad I'm almost finished with season 1.

Oh, one last thing...I've never considered the M:I films as canon. It really, REALLY pissed me off that they turned Jim Phelps into a deranged lunatic who's a traitor, a terrorist and gets killed at the end. Peter Graves didn't like the assassination of his character either, which is why they had to get Jon Voight. While Voight was a good villain, they could have easily made him someone other than Phelps. Seriously, turning such an iconic charcter into an evil prick was like a giant F**k You to the fans.

Anyway, in my next post I will begin posting rules for the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE drinking game.

MIssion Impossible Drinking Game (I'm honestly surprised someone didn't invent this game already.)

Take a drink when:

-A secret message self-destructs/decomposes.
-A character drinks/pours a drink
-A character smokes/lights up a cigareete. Take two if it's in an indoor public place. Take three if it's inside an elevator.
-A character applies or removes makeup or latex rubber
-A tape reel is in use
-A vinyl record is in use
-The camera suddenly zooms in/out
-A character uses Judo. You must shout "JUDO CHOP!" before drinking if you see someone use this classic move.
-A Volkswagen Beetle is on screen
-A character looks at his/her watch or a clock
-A character performs a slight-of-hand trick
-You see an actor who has appeared in Star Trek. You can drink when he is credited at the beginning or when he/she first appears on screen.
-Signs are not in English. Hardcore players of the game will take one drink for each sign.
-A thrown punch obviously misses but the target gets hit anyway
-One or more IMF agent(s) act shifty-eyed
-An IMF agent dons a uniform or costume
-An IMF agent copies a key
-An IMF agent raises/lowers an object on a string
-An IMF agent makes a handoff to another IMF agent
-An IMF agent feigns death or unconsciousness
-An IMF agent draws a weapon or fires a weapon

-Daniel Briggs/Jim Phelps chooses a guest star for this week's mission. Martin Landau is optional.
-Rollin disguises himself as another character who is also played by Martin Landau. Same applies to Leonard Nimoy.
-Barney handles tools
-Willy performs feats of great strength
-Cinnamon gets hit on/is sexually propositioned
-Cinnamon shows off massive amounts of leg
-Cinnamon gives a "come hither" look
-Cinnamon wears fur

More rules to come...ideas/suggestions welcome
