Picard, for some reason. It probably has to do with how diplomatic he is, and generally unjudgemental when it comes to other races. While at the same time, push him too far and he'll let you know.

That and that lovely Shakespearean voice

>Spock. The character embodies much of what Star Trek was designed to be all about - tolerance, exploration of the unknown, searching the inner self, improvement of the "human" condition.

While a part of me wants to say Spock as well I'm gonna have to go with Kirk. He is what I hope space explores could be someday. Adventurous, diplomatic, problem solver, and fearless. Always ready to face the unknown and able to learn something new as well. Remember risk is part of the game...

Are you sure it isn't time for a colorful metaphor?

Kirk.

As Star Trek is primarily about diversity, Kirk is as diverse and dynamic a figure as there could be. He is measured, intelligent, compassionate, and well-rounded while also being adventurous, action-oriented, and heroic.

Kirk embodies the balance of Spock's logic and intellect with McCoy's passion and humanity. He is the only character who truly and effectively (not artificially) demonstrates this balance WHILE AT THE SAME TIME retaining the flaws and frailties that make him a real human being.

Kirk represents the best of what humanity could become. He's not a white-washed unrealistic idealized version of humanity. He's a realistic portrayal of a real, relatable human being who happens to be a great space pioneer and hero.

I can't imagine anyone else even coming close, regardless of what generation you grew up on or what your favorite series is.

So true! Data is always the first one I think of, and I wish I could come up with some clever answer like Lieutenant_Jedi, but I simply think of him first because he's my favorite ST character (although he is closely followed by Spock, and Odo).

Data and the Doctor, only because they are my favorite characters, so they come to the front of my mind right away.

No real, witty reason.
