I knew it was Bones the second he was in the scene.  He had the elder prosthetics before when the members of a landing party were all aging rapidly.

Awsome, I cant believe I never noticed that out of the countless times of watching TNG...

I actually started watching TNG before I really knew a lot of the characters from original series, so I didn't know who McCoy was at the time. But there was something about his scene that just felt like a cameo, so I guessed the first time I saw Encounter at Farpoint that he must have been an original series cast member.

The opening scene of Generations takes place 70 years prior to this episode, so McCoy is 70 years older in this scene than Kirk was in Generations.  Kirk didn't age while in the Nexus.  By the same token, Scotty didn't age while stuck in the transporter buffer ("Relics.")
