My favorite episode is probly Cats Paw cas it's themed halloween and the castle is great By the way does anyone know if the people playing Spock, Kirk, Chekov, Uhura, Scotty, and McCoy enjoyed doing the episodes together or if they stayed friends after the episodes were done?

>I was going to wait and let my friend Wissa catch up with her reviews over on Arch Angels, but its like a craving for chocolate - suddenly you cant resist adding a new review or two! So, heres 2 more to be going on with

>IS THERE IN TRUTH NO BEAUTY?

>Frankly, the concept of this episode alone is enough to ensure that all the negative comments about the 3rd season over the years are unwarranted. This story has a far more interesting idea behind it than many of the stories in the first 2 seasons, and its a shame the show didnt do more `avant-garde' stuff like this. The idea of a race, ugly enough to cause madness is fascinating. Its a pity though, that whenever Kollos' box is opened, bright colourful lights shine out - that, combined with Spock's dark visor, gives the impression that the Medusans are too dazzling to look at, rather than too hideous. I wonder what they look like - i imagine something resembling a cross between a spider, a corpse, and a Human baby. One fan came up with an interesting theory - that the Medusans are non-corporeal so when someone sees one, they imagine a horror which drives them mad. Some fans have speculated that the idea is far-fetched. I disagree. Think of something like a spider (of the sort you might find in the bath). Now, that would not  be enough to cause insanity in itself, but imagine if that spider were hundreds of times larger, and it was right beside you! How many of us would be able to stand that without going mad? Diana Muldaur gives a good performance, funny how everyone seems to fall for her, as shes quite a selfish arrogant bitch. I like the effect seeing Kollos has upon Marvick and Spock - Marvick wants to run, run, run to get away from the horror, while Spock's mind turns inwards, refusing to accept a universe where such a creature exists. Great concept - something so physically repellant, you wouldnt want to live in the same universe!

lol  don't let me hold you back.  I don't read yours till I've seen the episode.

I wondered about the "ugly" thing too.  Remember spock while joined with the Medusan said something about all the senses and seemed to relish in being able to see and communicate.  Made me think they were non-coporial.

THE LIGHTS OF ZETAR

This episode is good, but nothing special. Its unusual to focus on a female crewmember in season 3, as the emphasis, as far as the crew was concerned, was on the 8 regulars. Scotty's luck is in, a woman half his age falling for him! Memory Alpha is a good idea - among the dead there are an Andorian and a Tellerite, together again. The possession scenes are good, quite scary for younger viewers in the 60s/70s i would have thought. The end of the episode provides an example of fans finding fault with the third season for unfair reasons, and conveniently forgetting what happened in earlier stories, ignoring the facts to support their claim that the third year was `different' and rubbish - fans have criticised the fact that Kirk just kills the `lights' without trying to find a mutually-beneficial solution: nothing at all like the endings of `The Man Trap', `Operation Annihilate!' or `Obsession' then! The scene where Bones tries to question Mira in sickbay was cut by the BBC.

REQUIEM FOR METHUSELAH

This ep has an oddly depressing feel, especially at the end, with Bones little pep-talk to Spock about romance, and then Kirk admitting he's lonely. The story is average, but enjoyable, though the show is starting to look cheap by this point. Flint's palace is stock footage from `The Cage' and his robot is a prop from `The Changeling'. Why does Kirk fall in love so hard and fast? He as good as proposes to Rayna after a few hours, then ends up fighting like a maniac to win her hand. The line `We're fighting over a woman!' is cringe-worthy, and id like to know how an android can fall in love in the first place.

Requieum is, basically, a very short adaptation of Shakespeears 'The Tempest"    Rayena was an exceptional android .. well past the scale of Data or even the Nexus 6 (going by fictional standards of course)   So its easy for Kirk to be fooled she was living.    As for him falling so quickly.. its TV.. Trek from the get go was bascily every episode was a stand alone story.   They had just under an hour to cram a whole story in that time frame.    Sure its lots of stock footage, but who cares?

>I dont think I have ever actually taken the thought of watching Star Trek in Chronological order from beginning to end very seriously as something I would actually to do. Was it easier than a 5 year mission? When you watched the episodes did you do it when you had the time or did you do it when you felt like watching Trek?

>

I've been doing the same thing with the intention of watching all the series and movies in order. I watch when I get a chance.  Try for 2 or 3 a week
