Well, this is something i feel is a great topic, ty Matthis.
I feel a great "arch enemy" should be of equal skills and knowledge and strength. So I would say Capt Tracy or Gary Mitchel. Khan, was great, but a product of the eugenics era......he was "enhanced" therefore, he had an advantage, although Kirk and company out witted him.

How come Finnegan's not in the poll ?
Seriously, I'd say Khan, Kor and Gary Mitchell . Mitchell couldn't possibly come back since he was clearly dead at the end of "Where No Man Has Gone Before", but I always liked him.
Ron Tracey was cool too, Mudd was more of a comic relief, I never thought of him as a real villain.
I also liked the Gorn captain in "Arena" ( "I have heard everythng you have said..." )

I could only fit in 9. I mentioned Finnegan in the openning post. I wish they would have revisited that character.
The Gorn captain probably would have been a nice candidate except he didn't really have any lines and is only memorable for his appearance, not what he said or did.

I liked the style of "Arena". I wish they had shown more of the Gorn in TOS. Finnegan was so annoying that I'm glad we never heard anything of him again Now that I mentioned it, I loved the feel of "Shore Leave" too, and I wish Yeoman Tonia Barrows was kept on the show longer, sort of like Rand.

Unless you have a time-travel story like in the Star Trek fan flick Of Gods and Men where the alteration in time that grants Mitchell life...

That's cool, I didn't know about Of Gods and Men having Mitchell brought back to life. I think he would've made a decent movie villain, because he was friends with Jim from Starfleet Academy, and I loved those glowing eyes

I have to say that Mitchell, Ben Finney, and Khan would be good choices. Definately not that Romulan Commander that Spock tricked though. And I think that if any of you ever read Vulcan's Heart, you would agree with me.
Mitchell would of course want revenge. Kirk killed him! Wouldn't you want revenge on the person that killed you? All though, that would be kinda hard to come back after being killed. Whoa, wait a second. I just reread what you said Rotrekkie, and that is cool. But what episode number was that? I don't remember seeing it, and I just finished watching the series through for the fisrt time. It actually reminds me of the Babylon 5 episode Day of the Dead, where Mr. Morden and all those other peopel come back.

Icarus14, Mitchell brought back to life is from the internet mniseries Of Gods and Men made by fans that I didn't know about either until SpockNation mentioned it, not from an actual TOS episode, but it could've been done in a film too to have Gary as the villain...

Who was the actor that played Mitchell? I thought he did it well, how he looked down his nose and stuff... it gave him a bit of a 'holier-than-thou' feeling about him... Which really worked with who the character is...
For a movie? Na...

I saw 'Of Gods and Men', frankly it would have been better if they's stuck to Charlie Evans... it made sense though, as soon as Kirk's mumma was killed, it trigged all these other events, first of all - Gary Mitchell not dying, and becoming supreme ruler of everything we know and love in Star Trek...

Two facts you might be interested to know:
1. The actor was Gary Lockwood, who was also one of the stars of the science-fiction classic 2001: A Space Odyssey.
2. The reason Lockwood appeared to be looking down his nose was because he really struggled with the contact lenses, and could barely see out of them!

I picked Mitchell, he was getting worse and worse just over a few days. Could you imagine if he had survived? He would have been one very powerfull and nasty entity.
