I theorize that the heated tempers followed by trolling and baiting has resulted from the Ten Forward board. I'm thinking the threads on political and social issues there get people worked up and have caused some to get aggressive toward others who post and defend competing ideologies. Might this be a problem?

Perhaps if the admins closely followed that board specifically they could catch problems and troublemakers early before issues spill over to trek discussions. Thoughts?

Then where did the grudges begin. Your theory only answers a "when".

Seer was one of the first that I met when I joined back in '98.  So many not around anymore from back then.  I feel very old now

"I care"

And that is a big reason why we are losing more fans to star wars. They care enough to give the fans what they want.

Seer was a good guy. It is a shame that a member's longevity on the site and supporters/witnesses in someone's favor mean nothing. To get someone banned, it seems all you have to do is hit the report button enough. I guess mob justice works here.
And all our asking and pleading for more open communication with administrators goes nowhere. If a few victims are swept away with the trolls, I guess they are collateral damage; there is star trek values at work!

Perhaps their needs to be a startrek.com mirror site where harassing is to be expected. Then everyone can grow a goatee and get it out of their systems!

If thats the case then its a shame. But, playing devils advocate, there is nothing written in the rule book that setting up a chat board means you have to give a stuff about it (beyond avoiding libel etc).

If the admins arent keen on allowing a few responsible regulars to take over some of the daily decision making and dispute settling all a person can do is accept it and carry on posting or find a more suitable board.

In the meantime polite requests to see some of the popular changes being proposed getting implimented might wear them down eventually.

"Let me see if Ive got this straight. You're risking the ship, the crew, and the mission on the assumptions that Helkara and Leishman are engineering geniuses, Tharp is a piloting savant, our transporter chief can work miracles, and the Breen are unwilling to sacrifice themselves in a kamikaze attack?" "Yup." "Damn I LOVE this job."

Or not. They appear to have deleted the thread where I recommended suspensions. They could have simply locked it. Why fear suggestions and remove concepts when we are only wanting to help?

These are the official trek boards but others like the one at trekbbs appear to offer a more open discussion experience. We gave a wonderful fan base who want to help, not hurt, this place and would like to see more people flock to it. But constructive feedback seems to go no where.
