New Animated Series

Several years ago, there was talk about a new Star Trek Animated series. The premise was going to be similiar to the Star Trek series that was proposed by Gene Rodenberry that featured a broken Federation in the 27th Century, there were even images of the proposed series leaked online.

While I think the idea of a "broken" Starfleet was unappealing to Paramount and maybe the fans, I think it would be great to see a new animated series on Cartoon Network, HUB, or Disney XD. Series like Young Justice, Symbionic Titan, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars show there is a large fanbase of sophisticated animation fans that would probably welcome a new series with open arms.

Any thoughts?

Wouldn't be opposed to a new Animated series.

Wasn't that one about the broken Federation going to be on Startrek.com but it was before CBS pulled the plug on the whole site which I assume killed off development

I think it could work every bit as well as a live action if it was done well. The current state of CGI means we are very close to achieving very watchable animations, to be taken seriously as a legitimate visual artform. Japanese Manga sort of led the way, I suppose, in making animation an adult indulgence. Films like The Polar Express proved at the time that we were on the path - but not quite there (as some of the characters were weirdly unsettling), but more recent efforts like Avatar have proved the medium has great potential.

I'd like to see Star Trek given this treatment by using the Kirk crew in a series of post-ST:TMP adventures. Make it gritty, adventurous and spectacular at the same time.

I have never seen the original animated series but I want to say yes make a new one... then I stop and think of the crappy new Transformers my kid watches now it's manga with the robots having big eyes and old Speedracer style emotional outburts... I don't want to see that in Trek. Make it an updated version without manga being involved and I would definitly give it a shot.

The Maryland, the Proxima, the Sarajevo, Starfleet ships that have been lost in the Gamma Quadrant for years; and their crews - brave soldiers, warriors of the Federation unaccounted for... We owe it to them to do everything in our power to find them and bring them home. It's the honorable thing to do. Worf: You use that word, but you have no idea what it means. Elim Garak: Maybe not. But you do.

Interesting and some nice images but I think it fails on two basic aspects:

(a) once more (almost innevitably) the crew is too human-dominated. Star Fleet is supposed to be about the UFP and not just an Earth Fleet. Even allowing for the fragmentation in their storyline, there should still more aliens on board in key positions - like why not the first alien captain?

(b) didn't like the square hull idea for the ship. Why not just make it totally different rather than harking back to the past? A split square saucer instead of a round one isn't much in the way of progress is it?

I think I like the all black uniform for security.

I didn't like the ship though - that "hammerhead" design was terrible.

Agreed looks like a Cardassian Galor class with Federation warp engines.

A new animated series would be good at this time. It may inject new enthusiasm for a new live action series. But what you base it on? DS9, TNG, Voyager or maybe Enterprise? Or maybe a new set-up altogether?

If they made a new animated series that looked like The Clone Wars that'd be great! If they made a new animated series that had the same level of story telling that the Clone Wars had - then hell no!
The new trillogy of Star Wars pushed me a bit... but Clone Wars completely killed it for me, just like JJAbram's new film pushed it for some (not me, may I say) an animated series could kill Star Trek.
Star Trek is not meant for little children, they need sophisticated stories... sometimes animation becomes cheap crap just to make a tiny bit of extra money... if whoever intends to do this intends to do this well, then sure!

Maybe a CGI version like TRANSFORMERS: PRIME, of Captian Riker and the TITAN crew.

i would take some characters from all series and put them there. Like Cmdr. Chakotay as First Officer, bring in Miles O'Brien as CHEIF engineer FULL COMMISON RANK OF LT.CMDR. Possibly have wesley ask Riker to come back. and Tom Paris as Helm/navigation officer.

OOOOOH! what about Lt. NOG as Chief of Security!

star trek is the embodiment of UNITY!
