1970 saw the second "Planet of the Apes" film: Beneath the Planet of the Apes. I remember seeing it the first week it was out. (OK, I just dated myself)
1971 saw the Andromeda Strain & (I don't know why this is always listed) Steven Speilbergs "Duel" and George Lucas' THX1138
Perhaps one of my favorite films was "Wesworld' with Yul Brynner as the persistent gunslinger.
The 70's had some interesting scifi films and the beginning of scifi's march to even greater heights then ever seen before....naturally it goes hand in hand with some of the worst made scii films also.

SpaceTherapist, Forbidden Planet isn't a 1970 to current film...LOL But that's ok, you may not have seen the thread for that.

All Star Trek films.......except the 2009 one......I'm sorry I've tried, I just can't get used to this new stuff :-( forgive me! lol
All Star Wars films......yes even the new prequeals had their moments of GOOD & BAD.
The Terminator......I find all of them to be enjoyable the first one was just amazing to me.
Short Circuit........I don't know if you would catagorize this as Sci-Fi or not...I mean it's a comedy true, but it's about robots and science.
And of course Planet Of the Apes

A movie probably nobody would mention here which I like is Time After Time (1979). There are plenty of Star Trek people involved. Nicholas Meyer directed and it starred Malcolm McDowell as HG Wells with David Warner in an excellent job as Jack the Ripper.

2001: A Space Odyssey; Star Wars (original trilogy); Solaris (either version); Star Trek (except 2009); Close Encounters of the Third Kind; Moon; Contact (the book is much better than the movie, though); the first Jurassic Park (it's more truly science fiction than many of these).

How has no one mentioned 5th Element? One of the best pieces of sci fi ever! Better than blade runner to me.
If you take the opinion of professional critics, Metropolis always comes out on top.
