I'm not certain that I'm quite desperate enough to want to watch a teenage Trek drama. Some of us don't like kid shows. And let's remember why SGU got cancelled and that people tune in expecting a certain type of show.

Does anyone seriously want to watch a TV show about being in school?

I think I'm going to post my classic "bad idea" post.  Starfleet Academy was one of them.

I will say it is not my favorite idea.

Now...if you made the show and say....focused it on the teachers, some of them being caharcters from TNG shows belnding with new instructors, well that sounds better.

Also, a training vessel or a training station of some remote location has more potential than boring San fran.

I never understood this.  Everytime it is pointed out just how God-awful boring it would be to have an Academy series, someone always briings up putting it on a ship...  Which is not an academy series...

If the only way to make the series idea livable is to completely abandon the idea itself, then it's not a good idea.

Watch Valiant.

Not the best Star Trek episode, by any estimation.

I am not so desperate to want an Academy series either, but if that's the direction TPTB took, (unlikely, but possible) I would watch it once before placing judgement.

Keep the Academy in books and maybe the occasional episode, is still my initial thoughts on the matter.

Oh trust me. I'm not jumping through hoops over the Academy concept. Might as well stick magicians with round glasses and vampires with glitter in the show.

Just stretching the old mental muscles and looking for viable ways to actually make they idea seem less awful.

You can't go to "Space, The Final Frontiere" and do much exploring of the unknown at Starfleet Academy in good ol' San Francisco. Just saying, all Trek shows have that at least. Even DS9 managed this skillfully with a space station as the setting.

Oh my God that's it!  Star Trek: Glee!  Each episode would be two minutes of silly teen drama and 42 minutes of songs.  We could even bring Vic Fontaine back to run it!

That's what it sounds like.

What about "Star Trek Temporal Insurrections" it could be about Lt. Daniels' time, with all new technologies and aliens that live in that time. What would the borg be like then? they could go back in time and find out how the Q came to be, or the borg for that matter and where did that dooms day device really come from?

I don't know I'd be in for that if it happened, but on the other hand... I cannot escape the feeling that Daniels' 31st century is one of those aspects of Star Trek that would be better kept just a teeny bit mysterious.

it's only one possible future. and who's to say Daniels is actualy acting with starfleets permission. Cowboy diplomacy like Kirk. Or maybe  Lt Daniels is actually one of the Founders from Deep Space Nine. The never did find all of them.

It can even crossover with Dr. Who

This suffers from the same problems as ClipTrek - Who the hell would want to watch it beyond the Trek faithful?  A Trek show needs to be as much about growing the audience as it is about satisfying the audience we have.  Trouble is, networks tend to forget about one of those two.
