Does anyone know why Riker has a problem with O'brien?!

Ordinarily that's true, but not in this case.  O'Brien is easily one of the best characters in all ST, and is my personal favorite.

>It's a long shot, but was O'Brien operating the transporter when Riker got split into two, creating Tom?  Tom might hold that against O'Brien.  (Yes, I know the transporter accident took place before TNG and did not involve the Enterprise.)

I seriously doubt that O'Brien was ever stationed on the USS Potemkin

I doubt it too, but it would conveniently answer the question.

O'Brien was on the Routledge before he transferred to the Enterprise. And he was on the Enterprise while it was travelling to Farpoint to pick up Riker, which would make it even more unlikely therefore.

>Remember - this was LT Thomas Riker - and since O'Brien served with CDR Will Riker for so long, if they started talking about the Enterprise, Thomas wouldn't be able to talk coherently as he wasn't there.  If O'Brien figured it out, he might start digging and find out it was Thomas, not Will.

Current blog post http://bettysisa.blogspot.com/ (DS9 Review. "Vortex")

Seconded. There is also the need for Riker to steal the ship sharpish as well, and not to hang around longer than necessary (Catch em by surprise). So he can't stand around chewing the fat with O'Brien, about the old stuff his "brother" and O'Brien got up to (which as was said, could blow his cover). As he is ostensibly O'Briens senior officer, O'Brien can't really attempt to take him to task for why he has cut him abruptly off for no reason. So O'Brien had no choice but to leave, looking confused and upset about what he was supposed to have done (or not as is stands.)

Tom needs to be alone with major Kira for his plan to work, so he made O'Brien leave

Agreed... He's the ALTERNATE Riker acting as Will Riker.  The writers don't really go into Tom Riker that much - so we don't know exactly how different the copy Rikers were.

The most essential difference I think for the purposes of this thread is that Tom Riker does not have the experience of the Enterprise that Will Riker has. Or perhaps baby Molly drooled on his trombone or something.

The only other thing i could think of is what someone mentioned already.  His leaving the Enterprise could have been resented by Riker who would take something like that personally...he's a bit immature like that.

O'Brian deleated all of Riker's porn inadvertently while working on the Holodeck memory modules.

He has apoligized and offered restitution but Riker won't have it.

Thomas Riker.... not Wil Riker. Even O'Brien didn't know.
