All the Journey to Babel was great Bones episode, but there was also a line, for what he deserved some bitch-slap afterwards:

'One more like this, and I'm going to lost both these men...'

AWESOME, Bones! Amanda can hear you, and Spock..well, he did not tell us how the drug induced high was like, but he looked semi-conscious and surely could hear you too!

Yes, he muttered a lot, it was an inseparable part of his personality, but sometimes he should be aware, what he says.

One of Mccoy's finest moments for me is when he stands up to Khan in "Space Seed". Cool and calm even with the scalpel to his throat. Even Khan acknowledged his bravery. For all his bluster, Mccoy is brave and can be a cool cat!

He has many fine moments, but some of the best are when he is willing to sacrifice himself for his friends.

>Spock walked out cured but blind (Took him about 10 steps before he realized he was blind). McCoy knew he messed up bad and blamed himself. Kirk in his heart knew it was McCoys fault but never says it out loud.

Also, another of McCoy's brief moments is in this same episode:

At the end, McCoy says, "Unusual eye arrangement.  I might've known he'd turn up with womething like that!"

Actually, he should be referring to the Star Trek writers, who "turned up with something like that"....ha, ha.  We couldn't have a blind Mr. Spock!

My favorite moment has to be the bar scene in Star Trek 3, where he's trying to get a ship to take him to Genesis. Everything from, "To expect one to order poison in a bar...is not logical" to him trying to give the guard a neck pinch is some of his best work.

Specially the end of the scene with the Spock eyebrow. That was justa  nice touch!

How about in "Friday's Child"?

McCoy slaps the pregnant woman when she hits him.

Later, is this exchange:

Kirk:  How did you get her to let you touch her, Bones, give her a happy pill?

McCoy:  No, a right cross.

Kirk:  Never seen that in a medical book.

McCoy:  It's in mine from now on.

Ha, Ha, Ha.....Love it

After reading through all these replies I agree I think Dr. McCoy's finest moment was being played by the great DeForest Kelley.

Are you sure it isn't time for a colorful metaphor?

Deforest Kelly was definately the correct casting for the part (and it didnt hurt that he was friends with Gene Rodenbery from other tv efforts).     I have met all of the original TOS (primary) cast  (some multiple times)  and my big regret will be that he was the only exception. I never had the privelage.   Awsome that he made a cameo in TNG, and Undiscovered gave him more screen time/credit.

His Greatest moment?    ......      City on the edge of forever,  Star trek the first movie (transporter gripe), space Seed, any time he did the line..  'dammit jim, im a doctor, not a ____' , and of course the birthday scene at the begining of Wrath of  Khan.
