I guess it depends on a person's definition of morality.  And where are each of those in the Constitution?  (Yea, I know that the socialists think that the Constitution is immoral....)

Just because you think that NPR is the only radio station that works in Alaska (not true,) doesn't mean that it's the US Government's responsibility to fund it.  If Alaska wants to do something like that, then let Alaska pay for it.

So what Bam Bam is proposing is that NPR should be cut, and that 50 separate radio networks should take its place. Chuckle.

Each state already has a public radio network, and the vast majority of them are underfunded. So public radio would essentially disappear, and the only alternative would be large corporation funded commercial FM stations or smaller AM stations that play Limbaugh at al, and have about fifty commercials an hour.

Great.

All the above listings are valid, but the worse thing is that the Republican budget is a show piece that will get knocked out at the Senate level.

So the Reps can vote for things that are ridiculous, knowing full well they will not get passed, and then go home to the Tea Party voters and pretend to be "deficit conscious".

And yet they have not touched the things that really matter: Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Defense.

I'm only saying that it's not the Federal government's job to pay for NPR.

My favorite is the cuts to the USDA food inspection budget. The USDA is already chronically underfunded and does very few actual inspections, relying on "voluntary, self reported" inspections by large food processing companies.

So for sure lets cut more money from their budget.

So if all the cuts are not expected to pass, and they have not touched the stuff that matters, is it even worth discussing?

Or is this just one more example of political posturing?

I'm ok with it.  But it should be the entitlement programs that go first. Te third rail of politics.

Social Security, Medicare, and all the other programs that are broken beyond repair or reform.

Sadly I have a better chance of seeing Elvis in a Starfleet Red Shirt before I see any meaningful action in DC.  My dog is smarter than these assclowns, and I can count on him to be what he is. A dog.

Most of the cuts target Federal programs that either hurt the Republicans politically (or are perceived to) or offend the "do it yourself" mentality of the far right.

They have to start somewhere, and I think it's more for the record showing who's for cutting and who is for wanting more debt.  (even though the big ticket items aren't being addressed.)

It's amazing that a "do it yourself" viewpoint isn't EVERYONE's goal.  (Everyone needs help from time to time, but too many people are subsisting off the government as a lifestyle.)  Either we are free or we are slaves.

I agree with the opening post. Myself and about half of my platoon volunteer with Obama.com. All of us voted for McCain while we were deployed. The last two years have been illuminating, to say the least.

I saw the first list about 2 weeks ago. They are cutting dependancy programs for the disabled, women and children. Cutting education grants and unemployement programs. If I could have 10 minutes with the next Republican candidate I would explain how their party has been alienating the troops by making life more difficult for them when they get out. It's disgusting. All they care about are corporations. And all the poor fools that vote for them are being victimized by a faulty mentality called "trickle down effect". Yes the trickle down effect worked really really well with the bank bail outs. Lets go with that. Who is it benefiting? Rush Limbaugh? Poor fools.
