I would produce a great series; a different ship and characters for every episode and occasionally bring them together.

I would retire to some tropical island somewhere and...

Oh oops. Sorry.

I'll have to think a little longer on the specifics, but would certainly insist that any new series should put its characters first, just as Star Trek on telly has done many times in the past.

That aspect of it should not be lost.

Folks,

Is it REALLY necessary to post so many "new series' threads?

REALLY?

What they should have done with that 2009 POS, Starfleet Academy. Stories about younger officers, to appeal to the whole youth market I'm not part of, while giving the adults on the show something to do. It worked on Buffy.

As for those guys on BSG doing the next Trek, Ron Moore already did TNG and DS9, before leaving Voyager after feeling betrayed about the direction the show would be going in. He wanted Voyager to be about characters who didn't all think exactly the same, and a ship that was slowing becoming less and less Star Fleet as they kept cannibalizing the parts they needed to keep her flying. You know, more like BSG than another TNG. He wanted to keep pushing Trek forward after working on DS9, and let it keep evolving from what it was into what it could be.

How about a show about Section 31 ala Mission Impossible? Your mission, should you choose to accept, is to safeguard the Federation in any means necessary. This holomessage with self destruct.

Are you sure it isn't time for a colorful metaphor?

I absolutely love Section 31 as a concept, but to illuminate them too much I think would ruin the mystery. The idea works precisely because so little is revealed.

I would make a musical series called Springtime for Khan and flee to Rio.

Falor was a prosperous merchant who went on a journey to gain greater awareness: Through storms he crossed the Voroth Sea/ To reach the clouded shores of Raal/ Where old T’Para offered truth./ He traveled through the windswept hills/ And crossed the barren Fire Plains/ To find the silent monks of Kir./ Still unfulfilled, he journeyed home/ Told stories of the lessons learned/ And gained true wisdom by the giving. – Falor’s Journey, “Innocence”

The transporters are not useless; they get you to a planets surface faster than any shuttle. If your'e bored and want to take the scenic route, that's something else, take the shuttle.

The writers at paramount don't know what else to do when it comes to anything; old shows have been rived because of lack of ideas and listening to any body out side of Paramount.

I disagree that it's a "writing" or "studio executive" issue.

The studios make shows that their data indicates the audience wants to see. the "remakes" and "revivals" are driven by simple audience demand. If audiences stopped demanding it, they'd go back to making more original ideas.

As it is right now, wiht all of the media competition, name recognition in television and movies is king.

Correct. The new movie season will contain the largest number of "sequels" and "remakes" in history. People right now crave the familiar, and with TV turning out crappy reality shows instead of good quality serial drama, people will turn to movies for the continuing adventures that they love.

I would create a series revolving around the Enterprise-B. Not a lot of canon on film other than the first 10 minutes of Generations.

I'dlike to see something done post-Nemesis, and post-destruction of Romulus. How did the Federation/Romulan relationship get affected by Romulus' destruction? How much was the Romulan Empire weakened by the Shinzon coup? What happened to the Voyager crew? How much has the Dominion War changed the way things are run within Starfleet?

There's plenty of questions left to be answered in that time period--maybe if they set it 20 or 30 years post-Nemesis they could show the long-time affects.
