I quit playing just before season 2. I suppose I should renew & check it out again, though the hardest part is the fact that I bought the online version, and they only offer the original (5 hours to download & install, not counting ep2,3,4,5... whatever else addons have been introduced.
If I come back, I'll probably have to buy it somewhere else & hope the download actually INCLUDES the updates.

STOL should not have launched when it did, period. It has little content worthy of the name other than the re-hashed episodes (and C-store items, which they seem more focused on for some reason). I was in Beta and +12 months after launch, I finally gave up, vowing never to go near a Cryptic/atari product again. The term "pay double to play" certainly applies here after the went back on all they stated regarding items on the C-store....nickle and diming fans to the bitter end, no wonder it mostly has life-timers left now, a look at the STO boards bears witness to this fact. Anyone wanting a good mmo should pre-order The old republic.

I don't think so . After this last update, The game seems to be more of a combat game than really Star Trek. The game has alot of angry players also because this last update has broken alot of things. When i first started playing i was really hoping the game would be more of a exploration and thinking game. It seems like its turning into just another kill this kill that online game.

How do you even start playing online. I don't see a option or a site to hit to start playing online Star Trek roleplaying. I have all the books and have to play on table top the old fasion way. I just moved to a new state so the only way I can play is online. I don't have a problem paying a fee. I pay one for D&D insider once a year. I just need someone to tell me how to get started playing Star Trek online. My email is michaeljansen76@yahoo.com. Cpould someone please help me get started.

Mr. Jansen, to play Star Trek Online, you must purchase the computer game from a retailer or game download site. Then you'll create an account and as long as you have internet access + $15 a month, you can play STO. Visit startrekonline.com for more information.
If you're into roleplaying, I'd suggest joining a fleet. There are many of them out there, and you'll need to do a little scouting to find the one that best suits your needs, play style, etc.
Hope that helps!

Since it will be free soon, I see this thread has become a moot point.
