Hey all,
I actually bought the entire series on video with my 1st official paycheck and I'm so glad I did. For me, it's excellent and a great continuation of TOS.
Take care,

Cheesy? 'Don'tcha think you should, re-word that, Laddie?' TOS & TAS were AWESOME! How can Star Trek and the word 'cheesy' be logically in the same discussion!?

The writing and concepts influenced an entire generation of producers, writers and directors. TAS influence was dramatic considering its short run.

It's a lot like 70s action cartoons. The storyline is sometimes cheesy but probably the worst is the silly running away from danger. My main complaint is that the characters' eyes have no whites in them.

I love TAS!
It's a lot of fun and it explores some stuff TOS never got to go into- and I believe it's where Jim's middle name was first actually said ('Tiberius').
I was actually excited to see that the new JJ Abrams film took some dialogue/ideas from one of the episodes ('Yesteryear'). Loved it.
TAS is definitely worth watching and enjoying, especially if you love TOS.
Happy Birthday Leonard Nimoy!!! You are one of the most talented, inspirational, and respectable people to have ever garnered so much fame. llap, always.

TAS is worth watching - it's just short episodes, so they can't do much depth.

rewatched all of them over a few weeks period...I really enjoyed them as much as when they first aired...which is when I think I last saw them!!!
yeah, they are worth a look see...good stories, some new interesting ideas (some of which turned up in TNG) and again using many of the best writers from TOS.
No, it's not spin-off Star Trekthat so many are used to, it's is Star Trek.
Check it out peeps

Doctor_Bashir, well... "Star Trek: The Animated Series" is not a show I watch as often as "The Original Star Trek" show, but it is interesting and the stories are good. I think it is worth buying on DVD, just to check it out. It won a couple of awards as I recall. Compared to today's animation it isn't too great, but the stories are fun.

Well.....some episodes are pretty funny. I really enjoyed "The Practical Joker". I have also seen "The Infinite Vulcan". I only watched the latter because Walter Koenig wrote it. I don't think I'll watch the whole series though...It will never replace TOS in my heart....My advice to you, janewayjunkie, is to pick a few episodes, watch them, and if you like them, watch the whole series.

They are not bad at all, all things considered. I haven't seen them for years (decades even). The animation is typical early 1970s and doesn't stand up to modern offerings in that respect, but the stories are quite good (most of them). My teenage son laughed at the quality of the imagery when we watched some this weekend, but he soon had to admit the stories drew you in and were worthwhile. That is what makes them work - the quality of the concepts and also having the original actors' voices. Also amusing is the way they managed to dream up a theme tune that kind of sounds like the original series, and yet contains alternate melodies - quite effective (and also very 60s/70s sounding).
