I've heard good things and bad things about the series, so is it cheesy or good? Do you like it? Would you reccomend it???

I own the set I think the first disk is worth what I paid for the set.
It is a collection of Trek storys, some were going to be live action.
The Animation is very basic the voices are the TV Stars. The DVD extras are a great bonus if you like hearing how things are done by the production staff.
I usually watch an episode then go back and run it with the commentary

I definitely do reccomend it. The animation isn't that great, but some of the episodes have very good stories, and they really don't drag at all because each episode is only like 24 minutes, and there's only 22 episodes. You could probably get through all of it, in a day or two. But it is worth a watch. It's like having the 4th and 5th season of TOS.

Yes, its old... but I believe it is an important part of Trek and I highly reccomend it. I own it and watch them from time to time, you probably won't watch it as regularly as the other series... but it is good, so, WATCH IT!

I own the entire franchise on dvd, and I'm always watching Trek. I don't watch random episodes. I just start at the beginning and work my way through, then when I'm done, I start over again. I never get sick of it. But I did start watching it chronologically in the timeline. Starting with Enterprise rather than TOS. But after TOS I always go to TAS after that.

The writing is superb and a one or two of the episodes stand with the best Star Trek has to offer.

I never sat down and watched it in full till last year and, yes it is a bit cheesy at times, but I had been missing out big time I enjoyed it.
Are you sure it isn't time for a colorful metaphor?

For a cartoon, The Animated Series seems to be lacking in something very essential - fun! It's boring. Each episode is half an hour and just drags. It's very slow-moving.
If you like watching eyes shift from side to side, or staring at static backgrounds for a full minute-and-a-half, while dialogue is being delivered "off camera," then this show's for you! If you like seeing cartoons with characters moving about and interacting, then you go elsewhere ...

Just popped in the first disc for the very first time tonight - looking at the numbers associated with the episodes, they appear out of order.

Aren't they all? It's like that for me on TNG and Voyager.
