I say soming about 70 years after Voyager so there are no old crews in the way or history and it should be a mixtrue of of all 5 shows and lot of new stuff also. No More Prequels!

I would love to see the conflict between the confederation of planets and the romulans which resulted in a war. It's still a story that hasn't been told. Prequel, yes but only about the romulan/confederation conflict.

There is nothing wrong with prequels. Who says Star Trek has to be set in a certain time period or another? Why do some feel it has to keep moving forward (post DS9/VOY)? It could be set in any time frame.
I see nothing wrong in taking it back closer to where it started. That was what Trek was all about. Return to its roots - back to the original time period - or thereabout. It's still way into our future - where it should be.
A stand-alone series is another idea. With so many starships out there it should be quite possible to chart the voyages and adventures of another ship and crew that has nothing to do with any of the existing shows we have become familiar with. However, I have said elsewhere that would aguably be a pointless venture - one new ship, one new voyage ... fill in the names for the ship and crew here (but essentially it is TOS/TNG/VOY/ENT again).
However, my own preference would be to come full circle and either do a full CGI series with Kirk & Co post V'ger - or - a live action show based upon the first captain of the very same Enterprise, Captain April.
The trouble with these threads is you do find yourself repeating what you have said elsewhere because this is not the first new TV series thread by a long chalk...

I think they should make a "Starfleet Academy" series. it would bring in a younger audience, as well as show some of the training and skill that goes into being a member of Starfleet. and I think "Starfleet Academy" sounds cool.
Kinda like what Smallville did for superman. ect ect....
"Do you think it's possible for two people to go back in time and correct a mistake that never should have happened?" ... "On this ship, anything is possible."

AWESOME POSSUM!!! There are a TON of GREAT IDEAS for new series' & movies! As long as the plot is kept within GR's 'vision', it would be way cool!!! prequel, sequel, alternate universe, parallel universe, time-travel forward or back, not just ANY Captain would do though. The Captain has to be worthy of a starship named ENTERPRISE. Aye. Just give me MORE TREK!!!

I think it would be interesting to do a ship towards the end of it's service life.

I think it would be interesting to have the ship be old, towards the ends of it's service life. Other ships show up shinier and with more gizmoes, but the series ship can still do it all.

If there was to be a new tv series, it should be based off the new movie (soon to be movies). There will be new adventures and complications waiting in the new universe because of **SPOILER for those who haven't seen the new movie** Vulcan's destruction. Everything that happened on Vulcan or concerning Vulcan in TOS won't happen in the new universe. It would be a challenge coming up with new senarios, but it could be really cool!

In the case of Star Trek, with over 700 episodes & 11 feature films, I believe it is important to realize that a new show cannot 'reinvent' the 'Star Trek Wheel' without alienating previous incarnations & fandom.
I always felt a new show should take place maybe 50-100 years after VOY, as Star Trek has always been about moving forward. The exploration of space is really a metaphor for the continued and never ending exploration of the Human condition; so setting a new series in a time we’ve already seen, seems redundant and a little foolish. The success of a new TV series depends on the ingenuity of the creators to develop a show that both respects Gene’s vision and can stand on its own, without ‘pissing’ on the franchise & its loyal fans.
Personally I won’t have much interest, unless the stories/themes are mind-blowing, epic in scale, and are a reflection of Gene’s basic vision (a future of hope).
Maybe shake things up, use the events of Star Trek (2009) and continue the timeline to the 25th Century. The new ship/crew are a product of the new timeline(s), the last 200 years of history just shifted, Picard/Sisko/Janeway still had their adventures, only now some of the details/characters are different (fewer vulcans/romulans etc).
Ah, that was quite a rant , I feel much better, LOL!

Have ya'll been to Walter Koenig's web site and seen Star Trek Phase 2/New Voyages? It is the Enterprise, same characters, just different Actors playing the roles....some of the same story lines even.....they are kind of...campy, in my opinion. No one can play kirk like Shatner did, or any of the characters for that matter. They were made for TV, but didn't make it.

I don't think there were any plans to release Cawley's efforts on TV. They are nice affectionate tributes, and give some space for some of the Trek minor characters to get a bit of belated spotlight, but that is all.
Any new series would have to better than these, even though as fanfilms they're not bad efforts.
Any new series needs to recapture the spirit of what Trek was all about in the first place. In other words give anything to do with Voyager or DS9 an extremely wide berth. In fact just ignore the fact they ever existed. And that probably applies to TNG and ENT as well ...

I believe that a series based 20-30 years after voyager's return home is an excelent idea. The writers should seriously consider many of the failed technologies from past series to propel starfleet technology far beyond that of TNG, DS9, and Voyager. For example holographic tech has so many possibilities. What if holographic people were able to gradually replace their holographic matrix with flesh and blood to truely become alive

Well, here's my 2 cents.....Some here have suggested a series based after VOY. Right now, I think all ST fans are starved to see any ST series on TV. Besides a series based after VOY, how about something based on the seedier side of the ST universe? (i.e; Harcourt Fenton Mudd's view of things). Another possiblity is the time frame between ENT and TOS (Earth/Romulan war? the forming of the Federation?)
Anything done after the TOS time frame would have to address the timeline change of JJ Abrams.
