I HATED him with a  passion, totally unrealistic to have a kid on the bridge AND he was super annoying

Wow, that's unexplainable hate. You know, because I don't count it unrealistic to have a kid on the bridge as explanation, because it is realistic. There's no law which will forbid it. How about Dick Sand, A Captain at Fifteen. Not really matched example, but it gives conter-example to your statement. So I consider your reaction to be emotionally-based, not logically-based.

His character was one of the reasons I nearly quit watching TNG.  He was just over-the-top annoying to me.  I think it was a combination of the unrealistic nature of the character and something about Wheaton's screen presence.  I had a real visceral response to him - like one might have to finger nails on a blackboard.

Agree with Agonizer. Even my little trekkie sister (14 years) hates Wesley, she says children have nothing to do on the bridge. So think I. Previous helmsmen of Enterprise were skilled officers like Number One and Sulu, not 17 years old über clever kids.

i thought wesley was a great character and was a key ingredient in making TNG succsesfull!

a lot of people say he didnt have enough character development but in my opinion... he did!

i think we seen a boy growing into a young man and gave us reasons to see more into starfleet acadamy, was a crutial part in Data's early TNG dovelopment and especially captain picard!!.. personally i dont know how anyone can say he was not just as important in TNG as the rest of the bridge and engeniering crew

good topic!

A word or two to TheMaster:

THANK YOU! XD

I love how I asked for real reasons, not just the he was annoying and what do people say...gee, let me guess, that he was annoying. Because that is a legitimate.

He did have a fair about of poor writing, and directing, but all things considered Wheaton created a good character. And why shouldn’t Wesley be on the bridge? The Enterprise D was a FAMILY ship, only logical that students would occasionally be on the bridge, especially if they were as intelligent and “special” and Wesley.

The only problem with him is that in Nemesis we see him in a Starfleet dress uniform, I think they forget that he left the Academy to go explore time and space with the Traveller. X_X But at least he was there.

Jolan Tru, may your day be filled with peace.

Yes. I think it's so funny how many people couldn't stand him. Everyone is right to criticize the writers for not giving him more depth, but that is a critique of the entire TNG franchise as well. Too many characters felt hollow or thin because so much of the show was about reversing the polarity and other technical things that did nothing to drive character development and growth. If they started the show now days, there would be more Wesleys and less Picards do to the move towards the youth market.

Did I NOT just say that I find this kind of statement frivolous and ultimately illegitimate? And since when are we replacing words with numbers here on the ST boards? Seriously, is it that difficult to type out two more characters? It’s not as if fingers tire easily. X_X

Yes, I am all about logic, without it we are just trivial over-advanced animals.

I would just like to know WHY people think he is annoying is that is the case, but alas, not everyone wishes or is capable of elaborating.

I thought Wesley was cool..... I never though he was annoying at all. I can totally agree when you say he was funny and easy to relate to as a kid.

My favorite Wesley line is from "The Naked Now":

"I feel weird, but also good!" LOL, I just laugh when I hear that, maybe it's just the way he says it.

I don't know what to think of Wesley, at first they tried to make him boy genious of the show, and then turned out to be not so hot, they didn't know what to do with him, it was OK to send him with the traveler, it was an honerable way to get him of the show, truthfully, I don't miss him.
