I personally loved him, hilarious and easy to relate too when you watch TNG as a kid. Would have liked further character development, to see more of his “magic powers” the Traveller saw in him from the beginning. It was interesting to see Star Trek from a younger perspective, and from someone in Starfleet Academy, since we rarely saw that in ST.

Anyhow, I would like to know exactly why some people hate him while others, like myself, love him. And don’t just say that he is annoying, because you could make that case for any other characters. I want to know the real, legitimate reasons behind your love or hate of this character.

that's funny you say you liked Wesley.  My family always thought he was pretty annoying

He really didn't have enough character development to get me to like his character

he really didn't seem like he did much on the ship

Really? I always felt he did enough, for his rank, at least. And I do have to agree about the character development, what I saw of him I liked but he needed much more.

I never disliked Wesley, but I thought he was out of place as a crew member on the bridge. It made little sense that the Captain would allow a 16-year old to drive the ship, considering it normally took Starfleet Academy training to obtain knowledge and rank sufficient to fill those positions. Remember that Data spent three years as an Ensign on the Trieste before being promoted and transferred to the Enterprise? If it took him that long to master the job, then Wesley was getting crib notes slipped to him from Data. I just know it.

Still, I loved Wil Wheaton. I think he got some bad lines, but then again, some of the writing in the first couple of seasons felt rather awkward for many of the characters. Star Trek is a somewhat operatic production, though, so it can be difficult to deliver those whacky lines with conviction. Wil was at a disadvantage.

Well, also keep in mind that Picard knew Wesley was special and wanted to help him realize his full potential. But yeah, I bet Data helped him out a lot, plus we do see him make mistakes, and learn greatly from them. They in no way baby him through anything just because he was special, which I thought was wonderful.

Like in The Naked Now and he is ordering that dessert follow and precede every meal, including breakfast. LMAO, so dumb, no 15 year old, especially Wesley, would say that, even drunk. Funny that he was the most clear headed whilst “drunk”.

Data helped him, just like in the scene where LaForge had himself stuck in the finger trap.... and you see that long, graceful pale hand reaching across the console to hit a button. Happened constantly when the Captain wasn't looking with Wesley.

I always liked Wesley. I never really meet anyone who actually likes him! (He's kind of like Neelix from Voyager, you either find him funny/awesome or annoying. I like Neelix too.)

I"m pretty sure the person who played Wesley Crusher left because he wanted to because he didn't have alot of screen time due to the fact noone wanted to write him into them because he couldn"t free up enough time to make the shows.

^You are probably right about that, which is indeed a shame.

I know that Wil Wheaton wants to be known for other things besides Trek, which is why he doesn’t do many conventions, sadly. I am lucky he is coming to Seattle to help represent The Guild, which is absolutely hilarious. I find that most people now recognize Wheaton as “that d-bag with the beard”.

No. I just did not enjoy the character. In my opinion there was not alot of depth to him. I did not relate to his storyline and found myself doing other things while Wesley was on. Whiney? I dont know. Perhaps I have no good reason.

No, it is understandable, his character needed more depth.
