Voyager is by far my favorite series of the Star Trek canon. Lots of people have written fan fiction about voyager in an attempt to throughly flesh out relationships already established, ones they wish were there, completely new ideas and situations never in countered by the crew etc. Have you guys ( and girls) read any of this fan fiction? Do you think it adds to, or takes away from the series? Thanks for your input!

I haven't, mostly because I'm not really interested and (even if I was) I wouldn't know where to look to find any decent work.

I do think, though, that if the fan fiction was well written and stayed true to the series, that it could potentially add to it. It has to be done well though. If its done well and the characters feel like they truly come to life, then it will add to the series since we are getting fresh stories and ideas, and possibly insights into why the characters act the way they do. Unless those fresh stories, ideas and insights go against what was originally seen in the series, I don't see how they could take a way from it.

Goodbye. I am gone.

Most of it is Mary Sue crap, but there are a few gems in the rough.

It depends on what kind of fanfic it is. If it's like a sleazy, unrealistic, inappropriate one about 2 people that NEVER would've worked together, or just something really random, it's not my type, so I agree with Lucifer.

I've read a TON of fanfic. Some is garbage, some is really good. If you enjoy reading the novels you'd probably enjoy reading a good fanfic

I agree that if it is totally unrealistic, it is probably not worth the read. If it highlights some nuances not throughly addressed in Voyager, though, I think I would give it a try. For example, what was Janeway's relationship with her fiance', Mark, like before they were lost in the Delta Quardrant? Was her Starfleet responsiblity a strain? hmmmm.... If anyone has any GOOD fanfic to suggest please do! Thanks for the responses.

I love the Fan Fiction, at least the not over the top stuff.  I hope since we have lost Janeway in the published novels someone will take up the mantle and write about Janeway adventures before she departed.  I probably would not have taken her passing so bad if we could have had the complete story, not just a few lines about her being gone.  Janeway would have go out with blazing lights and glory.  I guess it will be an unfinished chapter.  So all you great writers, show the TPTB your stuff!
