But a wise man can hear profit in the wind! It is inconceivable to me that a being can post on a Trek board how much they like 'the other'.

I am neither important enough to hold for ransom, nor radical enough to be considered dangerous. I am a simple public servant.

I like them both but there is no doubt that the characters in Star Wars are very two-dimensional.

Star Wars is like cowboys and indians, or Robin Hood, in space. It lacks depth. It attempts to gain some substance with all The Force stuff, but it is never really developed and the more explanatory science that is attached to the metachlorian thing, the more it loses its charm and mystery.

Star Wars is classic movie popcorn boy's own entertainment. Remember Lucas originally wanted to make Flash Gordon. That was his starting point. Star Wars is space opera - it is not meant to be taken too seriously. In many ways it is really daft ... but I do love it nonetheless.

Star Trek at its best has more dimensions. It has more gravitas, depth, character development, question-posing, and relates to the human condition. After all - the UFP and the future shown is supposed to be ours. The galaxy of George Lucas is not about Earth - past, present or future ... the universe of Gene Roddenberry (and others) is.

Star Wars is Errol Flynn with a light-sabre ... Star Trek is Horatio Hornblower with a phaser

>NONONO!!! To say you 'like ' both is treachery! It is almost as comparable to good vs. evil! I LOVE STAR TREK. I do not have any inkling of 'liking' the 'competition'. I don't even believe the two should be paired in the same sentence! Argh!!! I have to deal w/ this same debate in my hometown! Which is why I seek solace on these terrific TREK boards!

Ha, well said. The grey area is far more vast than most like to admit.

There is nothing wrong with enjoying both.

However, liking Jar Jar Binks is unacceptable.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the original SW is far superior to anything Lucas has created more recently, I will now not watch any of the new SW because of his disrespect.

But Trek has always been superior in my mind.

Yes you can like them both.  They are both "Sci-Fi" but Star Wars is more Fantasy.  I am writing a crossover for it myself XD.  If anyone wants to look and give me feedback here is the link XD.

Eh, not a fanfic fan really, got talked into reading a Trek fanfic which was pretty good but I still have about 20 chapters left.

Not sure if I care for the idea of a crossover between Trek and Wars. But others might.
