We always see him linked to the ship through the cable but I wonder if he had some sort of wireless capabilty since alot of us use wi-fi now. It makes me smile thinking of Data having to remember the access key to log on to the ship. I bet it was a long one too like 0118 999 881 999 119 725...3
Are you sure it isn't time for a colorful metaphor?

And they made Brent Spiner memorize it. The man should have won an emmy for that alone.

even in the future some data transfer might be too great for wireless capability. we all know that cable internet is 10 times faster than wi-fi

That cable makes me want to ask. Did Brent ever forget that it was attached to his head and try to walk off?
Well, seeing as wireless was not around in the late 80's early 90's the writers and producers would have no way to think to connect Data that way. Look at the technology we have now. It is like most of Star Trek is in the stone age.
Not Data of course.

What Tal recited (one-seven-three-four-six-seven-two-one-four-seven-six-Charlie-three-two-seven-eight-nine-seven-seven-seven-six-three-Tango-seven-three-two-Victor-seven-three-one-one-seven-one-eight-eight-eight-seven-three-two-four-seven-six-seven-eight-nine-seven-six-four-three-seven-LOCK)
Brent Spiner actually said:
"one-seven-three-four-six-seven-three-two-one-four-seven-six-Charlie-three-two-seven-eight-nine-seven-seven-seven-six-four-three-Tango-seven-three-two-Victor-seven-three-one-one-seven-eight-eight-eight-three-two-four-seven-six-seven-eight-nine-seven-six-four-three-seven-six-LOCK."
The computer actually misses three numbers (three, four, six) and adds two (one, seven)

Wow. You must have watched that a few hundred timesto get all of that... Again to quote others, that was an oscer winner just for remembering all of the numbers. Or maybe he made it up himself?
"Brent I want you to rattle off a series of numbers interspaced with Military alphabet."
Brent rolling his eyes, "You want that in sequence or random?"
