In light of the Fleebaggers in Wisconsin fleeing their responsibility to tdo their jobs over another union issue, I was wondering.
Do we need public sector unions? Police, Fire, Teacher, City, State, Federal?
I understand the need of unions in a large part of manufacturing and other industry to protect workers from abuse and unfair practices.
What I don't care about is a history lesson, I know the good unions have done, but a huge amount of those protections are now covered uner federal and state law now. Now it seems that unions are just the muscle the Democratic Party needs to get things done.
My general feeling is if you are paid as a direct result of taxpayer funds you cannot have a union represent you.
What say the rest of you?

I also do no see the need for union "protection" for government workers as corwin said all of the good things unions have done are now law and employers learned with out good employees they will never get ahead. Most government employees already have major job security.

Police and Fire do not need Unions because there is no compition in their fields.
Illegals are not sneeking in to the United States to be low cost Cops and Firemen
They want to do construction work for less than prevailing wages.

Dont even get me started. I live in NJ and the unions own the state. Unions and union workers used to be a good thing loaded with hardworking folks. Now the union idea is muscle to extort money from companies and govt. Why do you think so many jobs are leaving the country. Companies go broke trying to pay these astronimcal wages and can not make a profit. In my job (non union) I see union workers daily and they never seem to work, they watch a lot of TV (yes they watch TV during work hours, noy just lunches and breaks but all day long). Sadly unions have become the problem years ago they were the solution. IMHO
I used to be an outside contractor visiting an auto plant and they had this guy making $125,000 a year doing job they other componaies pay $10 an hour for. This guy sat around and complained all day.

I wish NJ was controlled by Unions Instead we have Govonor fat guy.
Oh look a project that will improve commuters lives and create jobs.
Hey Federal Government my people do not mind being unemployed or waiting for hours to enter NYC to go work because NJ chased all of the manufactoring jobs over seas.
And thank you for all of the Federal Money that was pumped in to the project that was approved and underway before I killed it.

If you're funded by taxpayers going on strike should be illegal. Every time they strike it's basically legalised theft.

Since unions exist for power, then in the public sector, who should have the power: the elected officials or the unions? Obviously unions are the antithesis of smart business and cost savings, so they should never be allowed in the public sector. If people think they're not getting treated as good as they should, then they can go elsewhere for a job.

Not really if the suits investigate their absence and they can't show proof of illness they can be fired.
Big difference between a Sickout and a Pickett Line
