>I hated that emotion chip.  They should just have left Data in his quest to become human alone.  I mean WTF  he wasn't pinoccio he was a robot.  It was endearing how many times he tried to have feelings and adjusted his program thusly.  ( is there even a word "thusly"?)     I also always figured they could have explained Spiner's aging as an attempt by Data to age along with his friends.   I mean , in the movie Riker and Troy looked liked they aged--a lot.

>

Everybody aged a lot. You can just tell after the 7 years of the series even.

People age, it happens. Nothing is forever, which is why it is so special. The emotion chip was a great idea, and I believe the majority of the fans wanted to see it at least once, I for one would have liked to see more, but alas it was not so.

Jolan Tru, may your day be filled with peace.

Why do you suppose the writers had Lore take the chip? To postpone Data from using it so we could have out cute little oblivious android, or was there something more?

I have read alternate universe books where Lore never steals the chip, and Data gets emotions as planned. And Lal survives, but that's another storyline...

I just loved Lal. the first time I saw that episode Icried so hard. I wish she could have survived but then the episode would not have had the same impact.   I wonder how Lor would have reacted to Lol?   Even more jealous than he was of DATA?

I am not a fanatic of DATA but I did enjoy him very much.  My favorite DATA episode was the one when he created LOL.  I loved how he spoke back to the admiral ( or whomever he was, the one who wanted to take LOL back to starfleet headquaurters ).  He was quite logical in his answers and to me sounded like a farther lion protecting his child.  DATA may not have had emotions but he displayed plenty for me in his own way.  I wish LOL had lived, how interesting future episodes would have been.  What a team they would have made.  DATA was fully "functional" as he stated with women so I would love to have seen who LOL might have had a relationship with?

Actually it's Lal. And I loved the offspring. Killing Lal was totaly unnecessary. She could have continued working in the bar with Guinan or something. That way she could have stayed in the series without being "in the way" of the story, or whatever the writers were afraid of.
