Oh, no... I hadn't heard of that particular crazy fan. I wondered why you hadn't found these. heh heh. No worries!

The weird thing is...  I never see Data in Brent... at all. A glimpse here and there, but that's it. And you'd think he'd sound like Data, but I don't hear it either. Does a lack of contractions make that much difference? His mannerisms are sometimes Data, but they're quick. Data moved a good deal more slowly, perhaps. I could watch this guy for hours, just to study the details of how he moves, how he inflects his voice. I know. I'm strange.

No doubt about it. He has aged beyond the role. Brent Spiner knows it. Johnathan Fakes teases him about it. They know, and it's okay. The next Data will have to be played by another actor, in much the same way that Zachary Quinto took over the role of Spock. Right now, it's hard to accept the idea of a new face on our familiar character, but with careful casting, it can be done. Much as I like Brent, even I would hate to see Data age much beyond where we left him. Part of the appeal of Star Trek has always been a sexy parade of youthful characters. Sure, we don't mind watching them age somewhat, but beyond a certain point, the show becomes strangely geriatric, no matter how much we love the original casts.

I think what Brent meant was... he could have done Data one more time, if there had been one more TNG movie. Still, he knew he was already "skating on the edge" in Nemesis. He was not anxious to play Data again, though. He said he was happy to see Data blow up. Can't blame him. I mean, he'd played the character for a long, long, long time compared to what most actors ever do with a single role.

The aging was quite noticible, but honestly I didn't care he was still Data..but if they brought Data back they would need someone new (id hate to see a data without brent playing him)...I don't know how'd I take to a "new" data not played by him...sure id probably love him but nothing could replace the ORGINAL Data

Absolutely true. Nothing will ever replace the original. I don't see how anyone could improve on Data as we know him.

It's like Spock, they broke the mold and no matter how close they get it can never be the same. But then if it could nothing would be sacred.

Man, Star Trek needs to come to the pacific northwest! And drag Spiner up here with it!

Jolan Tru, may your day be filled with peace.

Data is my favourite character in TNG, and Brent Spiner gave him a life that would be hard to imitate/emulate. If they were to redo TNG in movie form, much like they have with TOS, One of the major obsticles they would have to overcome would be the casting of Data. It could be done, but it'd be hard.
Spock is a good example. The original Spock, Mr Nimoy's Spock, was so iconic that the casting couch thought they'd never get the right actor...Then along comes Zachary Quinto, who IMO, nailed it. He didn't nail it by being Nimoy's Spock all over again, he did it by making Spock his own. The same attitude is essential to keeping the character of Data alive, if TNG were to be remade.
He doesn't have to be imroved upon... Spiner's Data is so developed characterwise, that they'd have to take a different approach to him altogether, without butchering him in the process.
And that would be the real challange.

Data should have fulfilled the dream of "Pinnochio."

It's strange, being a catalyst for things that move outside.

Unlisshed... great point. Someone would have to take the part and make it his own. Data would be done "different", and perhaps a little more Pinocchio to satisfy Tureaz. For now, I'm not prepared to see anyone else play Data. Brent simply did the job all too well. Curse you Spiner for being so damnably cute.

I'm not jealous, Roboto! I'm happy for you for having the chance to see him! I've always been content to leave my heroes at a distance, lest they mess up the "illusion" of my delusion. Still, if I could pick one person to hang out with in reality... Brent Spiner would be an excellent choice. You could say I am a fan.

As for Nemesis, bwtrekkie... Meh. "Data.... it never happened."

Yes, I'll agree... It was VERY sad when Data died. But rather than fussing about it, and saying how horrible it was, you all should think about the reason that Data did it: He did it to save lives. That really shows a lot about our beloved Android's personality, that he would sacrafise his life for his friends. It really showed how much he had grown over the course of time.

The idea of the contacts is a fun one... but they're not safe to use without a prescription. Even with prescribed golden contacts, Brent says he had some trouble. They put waves in his corneas that took a while to smooth out. I'm all for dressing up and having a blast, but it's not worth your eyesight, kids. Play contacts are cause for... concern.

OMG, I'm such a wet blanket. *kicks self*
