The 80s/90s special effects were far better than they were in the 60s but filming with models on a tv budget limited the show's abilities compared to the movies or even compared to the CGI effects of VOY and ENT.  So is it time to enhance The Best of Both Worlds and many of the other classics?  Would there be enough sales to justify the expense?

I think the earlier seasons could certainly benefit from improved special effects, and music too, since the score for the first season in particular was god awful.

No, I think they need to wait several years. Right now I think the show still holds up well...especially in comparison to shows made today.

Other than the occasional hair style/outfit, I don't feel like the show is overly dated and in need of change or enhancement.

While I enjoyed watching some of the remastered TOS (especially "The Menagerie" on the big screen), I never had a burning desire to see TOS remastered either.

Remastered affects, etc would be nice to see but TNG how it is right now is still great the effects aren't THAT outdated, some movies made today still have worse effects then TNG and TOS!

An adamant 'Hell no!' I just bought the entire series! Leave it for another couple of years, at least!

I honestly don't think TNG needs remastering. I read a commentary on TNG on a comicbook website yesterday where the guy slammed it for looking dated. Obviously, the original "Star Trek" is dated too, and, y'know, I don't care about that aspect of either of them. I've never understood why people get so bent out of shape about production design and sfx and the like. It's the story and the characters that are important.

That said, I admit, I did really like the remastered TOS episodes of season 3 (I have the original DVDs for seasons 1 and 2). The problem with the original sfx, for me, was how muddy they looked, which is something TOS producer Robert Justman was unhappy about as well. TNG never had that problem. The Enterprise-D always looked really good.

Yeah, maybe you could make the mattes and planets and the like look better in TNG seasons 1-3, before they went to the smaller, more detailed Ent-D model and the like, but, honestly, I just don't think it's necessary at all. I love TNG just the way it is.

Well, they probably wouldn't do anything with the scores, HRH, though I do agree with you.

Though I didn't like some of the tng or tos scores, I appreciate them as giving a window into the production periods same as the costumes and ship models. That's important because trek gives its a window into the culture that created the show as much as it gives us inspiration for the future. The visuals are different because often they don't represent what the producers wanted to do like in the case of Justman.

I actually think TNG's effects hold up very well for their age. Maybe that's because I saw them "fresh" as they aired, and they were cinema-quality for the time...but I really think TNG is already pretty darn good.

Didn't you think the same about TOS before seeing how the improvements bettered the experience?

A big NO NEED for my part - but then, special effects are very low on my list when it comes to determining what I like about a show.

As long as the story is good, the acting is good, the characters are believable, and there are no major design flaws - just leave it as it is, and don´t waste money on a so called enhancement of the visual effects. Better use that money for an all new series!

Sirtis has already had "visual enhancements". I think we can all admit that visuals add to your enjoyment of an experience.
