Nothing in STO is canon. But it, like the books, add continuity. I entered the contest and hope to win. My thought is, the F that comes out of it is official and could become canon if the franchise likes it enough. However, I have been so far unimpressed with the ships sto designs as they lack the grace of canon ships so I have little hope they will pick a ship that would work outside of sto.

This one? http://www.startrekonline.com/enterprise/sites/default/files/imagecache/lightbox/Fish1701F.jpg

Neat!  Good luck! Aside from your own, do you have a favorite? Anyone else enter?

I'm surprised there are fewer than 2k entries, who doesn't want an Enterprise in their portfolio?!? The bragging rights alone would be priceless!

Yep, that's mine, thanks. There were maybe 5 others I saw that I liked, but I can't remember which they were. There were several that weren't well drawn, multiple posts, and pictures of the E or Aventine in the mix so I think only a fraction of those entered have a chance.

This was my reasoning: The F will have slipstream drive and therefore should look like a logical flow from the E with Voyager and Vesta characteristics mixed in. Due to how slipstream looks, it needs a streamlined, arrow like appearance.

I took the E's saucer and pulled the widest point back to the 3 quarter chord. I also tried to work in elements from all enterprises. You see the TOS in the nacelle intake and exhaust. Not any A, really. The B is in the secondary hull. The C is in the top of the nacelles and bend in the pylons. The D is in the warp balancer, aft torp tube placement and main shuttlebay under the bridge. The E in the saucer, pylons and big nacelles. The nx is in the bulkheads around the bridge. And voyager its in the saucer deflector. I also feel it should be tall as the D since we have few steps to the monstrous J and need to scale up. There are other elements mixed in because it should be one giant, graceful legacy.

It's very enterprisey, but it probably blends into the crowd as a result. What a catch 22! Deviate from the formula and you're more likely to get noticed, but go too far and she's not the Enterprise anymore. What a balancing act! I think you've done quite well. I do wish it were a bit larger. I can read the text, but I have to press my eyeball to the screen

Did any one notice that most of the entries were just variations of the the Enterprise-E and Voyager?

It's gotta be pretty hard to create something original looking but still "Enterprisey." Everyone has their own preconceived notions of what an Enterprise should look like. Some go too far, and look like other types of ships, others don't go far enough, and look cliché.

You said "most." Do you have any favorites?

I know it’s hard to create something like that, but I mean they have had at least 8 variations that someone came up with. Each was a different design and class of ship, NX, Constitution, Constitution Refit Excelsior, Ambassador, Galaxy, Sovereign, and unofficially Universe. Besides, most federation ships have the same basic design. A saucer section, two nacelles, and a deflector dish.

As for my favorite I guess I would have to say then entry 1322

What's the "Universe?" Is that the J? I thought the J was official.

I notice a lot of designs have been heavily influenced by the J. Isn't the J from, like, hundreds of years in the future from the time of STO? Design characteristics don't seem to extend beyond 2 or 3 generations.

Anyone know what kind of technical specifications the entries are being judged on? Like, aren't there rules that Roddenberry came up with about nacelle position and deflectors and stuff?

Yes. I was referring to the Enterprise-J as a universe class starship and it is from the 26th century.

However, from what I could find the classification of “universe” wasn’t official.

Ahhh. What is it about 1322 that you like, pretty colors aside?

It’s a very good and UNIQUE design. Someone put a lot of time and thought into it.

A lot of people seem to agree with you, though I wonder how much of that is because of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEUf9UfRpSU

[edit/delete] Answered my own question. It's the only contest entry video with a link to vote, but there are these too:
