Shatner did an entire show about the topic.  We read about new inventions that have been inspired by Star Trek every day.  We also hear about how Star Trek has impacted the world socially with it message - nevermind the countless stories about how Star Trek has affected fans on a very personal level.

So, we ask you... how has Star Trek changed the world?  We're interested to see how many different ideas and ways we can come up with.

Communicators to cell phones.

Spock's/Uhura's earpiece communicator to Bluetooth.

TNG "personal computers" to desktop computers and laptops.

And those are only the technical changes.

First inter-racial kiss.

Both TOS and TNG were revolutionary in showing an "integrated" workplace: men and women of all ages, races, and cultures working together.

The list goes on!

Star Trek addressed social issues/injustices/inequalities when many in society and government were still trying to push them under the rug.

There is a shirt that says it all for me. "I became an aerospace engineer to build the starship enterprise."

Amen to that! Star Trek dove into controversial issues that others wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole.

Absolutely marvelous.
