>I suspect some new members are being banned because they are previously banned members rejoining and not because of any argument they might have gotten into.
I can believe that. Someone sent me a 'cap the other day where there was someone all but admitting that the only reason they log in here is to report people and get threads deleted. And it's stupid stuff like that was one of the key reasons the old IRC rooms went away in 2000: a few people causing to many headaches, and stirring up a fire that just wanted to die down. And I can easily see CBS "pulling the plug" on the forums-- if nothing else-- cause the amount of "headache" from it will eventually be disproportionate to the gain. Whatever our personal feelings one way or another towards the staff, the one thing they're not is afraid to ban people. This admin-team, when they say "get out" they mean "get out". No cutesy "well they meant "one account at a time", no "well a ban account doesn't count", when they show you the door they expect you to leave and stay gone.
Someone that knows you personally sent you a cap for "reporting people?" WT?

Why should members, who were banned unjustifiably, not be allowed back on these boards? Ok! We don't know all of the reasons, but why is it up to us to moderate? Perhaps we should just go about our own business.

Overuse of the report button needs to be queried. That is what moderating, is for.

it's the admins not allowing members back. Not the members.

But is it right for someone, or a few, that have been suspended/banned repeatedly to come back and make an new account just to report those that they feel are breaking rules? Is it right or fair that someone, or a few, that have been suspended/banned repeatedly to come back and decide that they will act as Admin/Moderator since they seem to feel that they 'know better' than the actual Admin/Mods/TPTB?

I personally have no problem if someone gets banned, poss. unfairly, then comes back to become a better behaved member. One that contributes to the discussions instead of attacking others or seeming to have a 'revenge' agenda against everyone and their dog.

If someone wants to come back after being banned and doesn't resort to attacking others, including Admin/Mods/TPTB and doesn't resort to trolling just to cause trouble or baiting other members just to get them banned too. That kind of 'member' is not interested in anything but causing trouble or getting revenge on those, real or imagined, that have wronged them. And if they can get those 'against' them banned, too.....all the better in their minds, it seems.

Now I'm sure that someone will decide that I'm attacking them and will report me. So that's why I'll add this:
************DISCLAIMER**********DISCLAIMER************DISCLAIMER************DISCLAIMER**************
This post is not attacking any one member or person. I am stating my POV and only my POV. I am not attacking any one nor am I trying to bait anyone into an argument. I am simply stating my opinion regarding people being suspended/banned coming back, making new accounts, simply to cause trouble. Again, this is simply my POV on the subject and I am in no way pointing a finger at any one person or persons. End of line.

Yeppers. It was a claim by a banned member from here making a statement on anotehr boards where he (she?)  claims to be able to log in and does so only to report people.

I'm refering to posters that have been banned because certain trolls have returned to report on those posters to get them banned. Sorry if I didn't make that clear.

Like Seer stated, certain banned user's, returned, only to report on other's to get them banned. This is what I mean about "moderating," being needed by the one's who are authorised to do so on this site.

The other moderating I was refering too, was one where good poster's, were banned because of over zealous use of the button and that the poster doing the reporting, was not looked into, especially to do with past actions and the possibility of being a troll.

There have been some instance's where poster's see the rule's as black and white that only apply to other's and not to themselve's. That's all very well if that poster isn't the target or if there isn't a bias involved. Some can be a little smug in regards to their position on these boards, until it happens to them. That is what I'm talking about.

I'm not stating that it isn't deserving, but considering the abuse of the "report" button, those avid poster's, through no malice, have got the flick from here. I'm not here to moderate, although I have tried to remind some folk about awareness in some of the posting, and can relate to what you stated and I agreed about the PM system being good to aid other's or to help in some way, and if things get out of hand. We can't do that now, so it has to be out here somewhere. What I have always' stated, is that a person is here, because admin, allows them too, and pointing the finger, only adds to the aggrevation that already exists. Allow the moderators to deal with these things, and us going about our usual business.

I hope that you understand. Co.

Cheers and peace!

You guys need to read part 2 of the Gerrold interview in the news. He says how he enjoyed the enthusiasm of fans and that they deserve the best effort by the franchise. When they stopped doing that and lost their way, he left.

So can we stop the squabbling and unite to get enthusiasm up for making sure CBS and startrek.com give us their best!

What's that to do with the price of fish?

Global economy. Everything affects the price of fish. My point is this thread is about the site possibly closing. We all got worked up, put this thread on top and stopped the thread from being removed. Now that the moment's past, back to rivalries among members. Why aren't we united in the cause behind this thread anymore?

Some posters have ulterior motives and rather large ego's that affect this place and other people.

Kind of like my post with members self policing, I knew what you were talking about, Ture ^_^ I was just putting out my thoughts for others to read, along with yours and Seers thoughts. So other members can see that we can have a good debate here, even with differing POV's and we don't get mad at each other or threaten to report each other.

I liked Admins reply in DamarLives thread about Joys topic being deleted. They cover a lot of what we've been talking about here.

Anyhoo, we good, Ture? Glad to see ya around ^_^
