When did Bajor eventually join the Federation? And was the Bajoran Militia "absorbed" (shall we say) into Starfleet?

I don't think there is canon regarding Bajor as a Federation member, but I may be wrong.  Throughout DS9, Bajor was never a Federation member, only an ally.

As DS9 ended, the Bajorans were still independent. When a planet joins the UFP, its militia is absorbed into starfleet and it's standing army/navy disbanded.

In the book Unity, Bajor joins the federation and this absorption happens. At that point, Ro Lauren, who had been serving on DS9 in the militia rejoined Starfleet and Picard gave her her old uniform (though obviously dated).

In Unity and other DS9 books that take place right after it, it is stated that the militia is not fully disbanded. It still exists on Bajor, taking care of "local" issues like planetary defense. Apparently most Federation planets are like this, with their own local military, much like US States have their own state militias even though the Federal military takes care of national defense.

The running of DS9 was completely turned over to Starfleet. And Starfleet does have people stationed on Bajor, but the Militia still exists.
Militia members were given the choice of joining Starfleet or staying in the Militia.
Kira and Ro joined Starfleet and stayed on DS9.

Earth apparently doesn't have a local militia; at least nothing that's been mentioned. Maybe because Starfleet was already protecting Earth prior to the founding of the Federation (as we see in ENT).

I don't think any planet's military is totally disbanded. The military remnant becomes the the planet's security and defense force. Starfleet handles security in space once the planet joins the Federation. Like Data Logan says- they can choose whether to join Starfleet or stay in their own militia for planetary security.

Good points, the planetary militia become the coast guard and police force. The interplanetary militia become starfleet, which is primarily an exploration organization.
