I have not been on this site long, but it seems like Miles gets no love.  Personally him and Ben are my favorite characters from the show and I didn't like how Worf cut into his screen time later on in the series.  Practically every episode (if not all) that O'Brien has the lead part are amazing episodes.  Captive Pursuit was the first DS9 episode I saw and probs one of my favorites and lets not forget the tribunal, phase shift, hard time all gerat episodes.  Thoughts?

Lol, poor Miles. It seems like every episode that he's been the focus on lately (I'm watching DS9 for the first time, and am on season 5), something horrible is happening to him or someone he loves. I mentioned in one of my posts somewhere that I liked that DS9 had a character like Miles because he is so normal. Whereas a lot of the characters are either super-geniuses or super-gifted or talented (strength, strategy, logic, etc.), Miles has an intelligence that comes from experience and hard work. Thus, his level of intelligence is attainable to everyday people, and he becomes a character you can relate to.

Miles would have gotten it shortly after lol...the writers just wanted to show Rom's progression from the idiot brother of Quarks into an actually capable engineer

The obrian must suffer episodes were some of the best in the franchise, especially the one of obrian in the virtual prison. It was also nice to get non officer viewpoints. I also think obrian is one of the most relatable characters.

O'Brien is a great character because he's a more realistic portrayal of a human being, and not some perfectly polished, self-righteous verson of one. He was flawed, and it often made for great drama.

He added to the realism and appeal of DS9 tremendously.

Spoiler- the show ends with Benny waking up realizing the real money is in writing steamy romance novels. But the 1950s weren't ready for the obrian-bashir romance.

Yes I loved Miles o'Brien too! He was a character with great depth and Colm Meaney was terrific.

I have no love, nor hate, for Miles Edward O'Brien, but episodes such as "Hard Time" and "Whispers" (in which he was the primary character) are fantastic. Colm Meany, I think you deserve a standing ovation for "Hard Time".

Miles Edward O'Brien is either been an typical engineer which he had'nt almost shown in TNG, more in DS9 surely as a man who needs in a technological type something to fix. Besides his relationship to former NCC 1701-D staff. In his alldays life as an everyman with Keiko, daughter & then son on that special spacestation.

Yet with more screen time than anyone than worf. Of all the characters I've watched, his was the most . . . human.

I can relate to O'Brien, being a repair guy myself. " My console is messed up chief ". "Chief my replicator isn't working ". Blah Blah, we'll get to it the first chance we get, won't we chief. hehehe
