A long time ago, someone asked about telepathic Borg.  That is an interesting question.  First of all, could telepaths tell the Borg were coming?  Could telepaths read the Borg minds?

If the Borg assimilated a telepathic race, wouldn't that have greatly helped them?

Remember one of one? I really liked that episode of VOY. Would you think that he was telepathic?

It's strange, being a catalyst for things that move outside.

You know, he could have been, because he wasn't linked to the hive? Just an observation.

Telepathic abilities are useless to the borg. Implanted technology links their thoughts anyways. Plus they have no need to read thoughts outside the collective since they plan on conquering non borg and plug them into the matrix anyways.

But could a telepath read a borg drone's mind?

Let there be pants.

i really don't think so, as a borg drone has no thoughts of their own and any telephathic abilities they have are artificially created. There is also the chance that if a telepath was able to read a the mind of a drone, they would be overloaded by the magnitude of the collective, and possibly even loose themselves to it. but that is just my opinion on the subject.

No. He was human. The only difference between One and a standard Borg drone was the advanced technology.

Human because of 7? It's true that the technology was advanced, but does that necessarily rule out "telepathy?"

Human because his DNA was extracted from Ensign Mulcahey, who is himself human with no known telepathic ability. The closest thing to telepathic ability that One has shown is the extraction of information from Seven through a neural link, which is something that all Borg have, and is the result of specific implants, not telepathy. So, yes, I am 100% sure when I say that One was not telepathic.

But aren't the Borg programmed or directed to conquer or assimilate non-Borg in the most efficient manner possible, always looking for new means to boost efficiency? If the Borg could connect telepathically with individuals outside the Collective, they could gain useful information to aid their campaign of assimilation, and they could possibly influence the actions of individuals outside the Collective (as Spock telepathically influences people in "A Taste of Armageddon" and "By Any Other Name"), weakening those individuals' resistance. Also, the Borg assimilate information and techniques, not just organic and mechanical material. From their perspective, why wouldn't telepathy be a new "technology" for information assimilation.

I guess the problem would be defining what telepathy is, then deciding if it could be assimilated. Is it a biological trait? A mental technique requiring an act of will power? Both? If there is an element of individual will inherent in telepathic techniques, could that will be recreated or simulated by the Collective or the Queen on behalf of a biologically telepathic drone?

You make a valid point Kelis, but Borg have assimilated Vulcan's before (and for that matter other telepathic races), so if they did have this ability why haven't we seen them use it in the past. IMO it is because they either cannot use these abilities for some reason, or they deem them unessessary as they have technology to communicate with each other in a similar method.

I thought the Borg assimilated those races from whom they hoped to benefit, not just any race. It would seem that they would benefit from assimilating a telepathic race or other intellectually advanced species. If you were the Borg, wouldn't you? Additionally, having assimilated telepathic races might enable them to resist any attempts by a hostile power to use that against them.
