I just recently started rewatching TNG on dvd and have completed the first two seasons. Is it just me or does Worf get his ass kicked alot for a warrior? Don't get me wrong, I really like Worf, but he's always talking about battle and his strength as a warrior and it always seems like he gets his ass handed to him when he actually fights. Everytime a scene comes up where he gets angry, I keep hoping to see him beat someone down, but it usually doesn't happen.
Does this change in later seasons or is it pretty much the same throughout the rest of the series? Are there any good episodes where Worf lays down the law?

At that point, he was klingon-lite. He was highly removed from his people and really only knew klingons from the holodeck. As he gets more quality time with his species, he definitely goes from being a poser to the real deal. I always thought worf was over compensating though. "And all the girlies say I'm pretty fly (for a klingon guy)."

Good to hear because I like the Klingons and hope to see Worf smack some people around. I didn't really like them so much until I saw the episode where Riker takes the transer job as commander of the Klingon ship as part of the Federation exchange program. The scene where Riker is eating with the Klingons is classic. I nearly pee'd myself when the guy asked him if he needed one of the females to breast feed him.

Well, Worf is a nerd. And I mean that in the most endearing way possible. He trys so hard to be a cool kickass klingon, but honestly, I think Dax outdid him on that front most of the time. LOL. I love him for it though, it made him a more interesting character than if being "a real klingon warrior" was something just totally easy and natural to him.

He was definitely a "by the book" klingon. Like the shelby of klingons. When he told picard "if you were any other man, I'd kill you where stand" was probably his best line.
I loved Riker on the klingon ship. In fact, I loved how tng brought respect between the ufp and the klingons. I was glad the producers came to their senses in ds9 and quickly ended their conflict.

Worf is kind of a nerd. I still find him really amusing as a character. He's one of my faves.

So, so true.
I also think that Worf's character was beaten up a lot in the early seasons in order to show just how dangerous the opposition was... sort of a "Ohmygosh, he/she/it/they can beat Worf, woah the landing party's in trouble now" kind of thing.

So he's a deadly nerd, a renaissance man, a scholarly samurai? He's still a nerd.

Some web definitions of a nerd include:
1. An insignificant student who is ridiculed as being affected or boringly studious
2. An intelligent but single-minded expert in a particular technical field or profession
3. A person who, although having good technical or scientific skills, is introspective and generally introverted
Nerd is a term often bearing a derogatory connotation or stereotype, that refers to a person who passionately pursues intellectual activities, esoteric knowledge, or other obscure interests that are age-inappropriate rather than engaging in more social or popular activities...
As I can not see how any of these descriptions define Worf, I honestly do not understand the characterization of Worf as a nerd. Someone please explain this to me...

2 and 3 sound like worf to me! He was definitely single minded about klingon tradition and highly introverted. Also he snorted when he laughed and that sash was basically a giant pocket protector!

Well, he is in good company. I have some of Worf's traits, but I'm more Andorian like Commander Shran.
I always party at Starbase 63!

It seems that he wante to pummel Quark, but resisted because of Jadzia. Worf's fighting scenes, were usually swift. It was all over before it began.
It's strange, being a catalyst for things that move outside.

I almost fell out of my chair when I read this! Someone should start a thread filled with rumors about the true origin of the Worf's sash. LOL! The possibilities are endless. For example... I heard that Worf really acquired the sash when he came in second in a Klingon beauty pageant.
